Think the difference between B&Fs and Association medals is the consistency. You can win an association medal playing 7 oustanding games and doing nothing for the rest of the year and still getting 21 votes, whereas in our system you'd get 42 when 55-60 is usually a winning number.

I like that sound of this Pag! Especially cause there can be more than 1 BOG, which can often be the case. But does this mean that the chance of multiple B&F winners is increased? Cause i hate that!

Basically over the years ive been whitens to seeing the parents of players and friends of players, all of which have no idea about football be the main card holders. At the medal count itself ive seen players that have played just 10 min get votes along with players that have not even played in that particular game. And then there are the consistent, first 18 players, that ive seen finish even lower than 18th. Why does that happen? Because their parents are not figure heads at the club.

Is there a perfect way (or at least a better way) to run the B&F count??????

Which club are you referring to BOB?

Im definitely leaning towards the three cards being given to the head coach, assistant coach and team manager only. But if the coach plays than the runner providing they are up to the task should take the job. Still unsure about how man votes per card? Or if every player should be graded?

I also reckon a Players Player is also a great option, 1 vote per player, hopefully no one tries to tank the result by picking players that cant win late in the season.

I am interested in people's thoughts on this format:

A Win 6-5-4-3-2-1 [4 cards]

A Loss 5-4-3-2-1 [4 cards]

Any good?

all was good for 3 years until one umpire decided to suggest we were doing it to get idea of medal votes and told the umpires boss. we got phone call saying we could no longer do it that way.

problem with players doing the votes is we had a "Players Player" award done by obviously players
in which some selfish ones picked players that couldnt threaten them come years end
we even had a bloke poll votes that never played that game

took what should be the best and most rewarding trophy for a player into a farce

The Umpires are just morons anyway and couldnt pick their noses so how could we ask them to pick the best player just ends up being a forward usually lol

And as for the players who vote for them selfs (dont worry ive seen a couple of guys do it) i think thats funny if they get found out and its their vote if they think that they were the best player they can vote for them selfs though i wouldnt.

Plus vote for the person who you think is the best............. just because a person might not be in the run for the players player doesnt mean you cant vote for them..... or else it would have been 3 people getting the votes every week just because they were in the running for Players Player....

Ok, do you care to elaborate? eg. who do the cards go to? why less votes on a losing game?

The four cards to be done by the senior coach, assisatant coach x2 and a team manager this will differ from club to club but as long as these people watch the game [watch not look at...] and have an understanding this part is not really the issue.

The part I am keen to get some feedback on SB is the weighting of an extra vote for a winning game, why should player x who has 28p's and loses by 14 goals get the same votes as player y a week later who has 31p's in a side that wins by 5 goals? I'm not saying it is the best way to go but it does place more emphasis on rewarding winning efforts. The best player gets a 6 instead of a 5 and the sixth best instead of missing out sneaks in for a vote. So in a winning game if player z has 38p's, 4 goals and 7 tackles he could score 24 votes for that game [6 votes from all 4 cards] whilst in a losing side the maximum would of course be 20 [5 from 4]... Give me your thoughts peoples!!

Well said. I reckon from they way you have put it, this should be something to seriously look at. Although do you believe this could benefit front runners that only play well when the team is winning? (I hate front runners!) That is the only negative i could get out of what you have said, which is a very small negative. :)

I agree SB, but with only a small difference between the 6>1 and 5>1 it shouldn't be too top heavy in terms of favouring or rewarding those that are happy to "ride the waves but not as keen to paddle out to catch them!" Having said that it can be difficult to find 5 guys worthy of votes after a heavy defeat just as it is difficult to narrow the votes down to 6 in a side that has won by 12 goals...

Anyway any other ideas? The traditional 3-2-1 is flawed as how often is best on ground 300% better than the 3rd best player on the ground...

Well we haven't had a tie in the A Grade B&F since '03 I think, so it seems to work ok...
