We are an AMATUER competition and to compare the way its run to AFL is completly ludacris! It is a lot more complicated to program a multi divisonal league than its is a 16 team league where the same teams are always gonna be there, their grounds always gonna be available! AFL have a formula to go buy, clubs put in request and it is just nutted out! AFL clubs need more time so they can get council permissions, function planning, membership considerations!

You just don't get it we are not an Amatuer competition. Amateur in name only, most clubs are an actual business and need to be run as one.
This means planning either be it 1 year or 5.

What we want is a bit of notice not 4 weeks. I'm not here to sling of at other clubs.
We try to run our club professionaly as possible but the stupid idea to only annunce the draw 4 weeks before the season is 1970's style admin.

Obviously you and jimmy are not a club directors and just turn up at games
Clubs have to plan for the up coming season. If the league wasn't so weak and got clubs to make decisions it might be better run

Clubs like yours in lower grades might be able to get by with one weeks notice of a program but in D1 & D2 we need more notice.

I gather that neither of you are club directors so don't understand what is in volved in running a club. I suggest that you get involved on a day to day basis and you might change your mind

Why the **** do you think you need more notice than clubs in lower grades?

Lower grades probably need to organise more fundraising events, etc cos we struggle to get the big sponsors that higher grades/colleges get so pull your ******* head in.
Dont think that because you are in higher grade that you are above everyone else

If your club is run like a business then perhaps you should apply to join the SANFL as obviously you are too good to be in the amateur league.

and if you can't organise past player days inside 1 month and give people 1 month's notice then I'd hate for you to organise the staff xmas pi5s up at the brewery

I think Broadview want to get the function going for the longest dummying spitting competition, that is why they are needing dates for the correct game to do it for.

If the club is smart you can at least get put in place for each month of the year what events you want to do, and then when the fixtures come out you can then set the date for those events, easy done.

I think you will find that 4Estate was also on the Executive Committee for a few years and been on Broadview's board for about 10 years. I was told by a high ranking official from a club around the corner that he had trouble dealing with the wanna be legends in there and thought he would be more effective as a delegate

i see your point about reunions but what about approaching the saafl with the dates in mind and getting home games programmed on those rather than waiting. the saafl will try to help out with this occasions as they did with the broadview v uni game in 2006 to celebrate uni's 100 years. then it doesn't matter how late the program comes out if you have prior approval from the saafl.

saying that, i'd like to see the saafl have nominations finished by end of january and stick to a system - be it the reflective nature of c1 etc or all c/d grades sides play in a competition where promotion and relegation accords with results.

this blame game re: district v college sides is old hat and rather boring.

We apply to the SAAFL with our requests within 24 hours of the AFL draw being released and had no luck last year considering its was our 80th year in existence.

We have applied for two games this year as we have 7 premiership reunions to arrange from 1969 - 1999. With over 200 players to contact it would be good if we could lock in the games and the dates to allow for planning. Our Past Players Association is nearly 400 strong so you can understand the work involved to make these days a success.

One months notice to start planning is not enough time the earlier the draw the easier it is.

I agree with promotion & relegation for the C & D grades, you only have to look at the scores in those grades last year. Some clubs were way too strong and others were out of their depth

Winning a premiership in C3 every year and not getting promoted is very ordinary.
We had this system with the North / South C grade competition several years ago
Phos Camden & Goodwood Saints played off in 5 out of 6 D9sth GFs if my memory serves me correct. yet in the D9 North you had different teams every year. promotion and relelgation should apply here as well
