i'm assuming if this was brought in that there would be a cutoff date
eg listed players 2009 if it was in for 2010 in which all current players are worth 0?

Yes I think there would need to be a starting point and maybe a 1st year ex SANFL recruits playing in 2009 at your club are worth 1 point each and others (non SANFL) start at zero as per a junior ranking.

just leave the system as it is. Points system is the greatest failure ever in Barossa League and Southern League. Know guys in both
Leagues who have it and it is a joke they say. Clubs with strong juniors now will be the only winners. Clubs like Gepps X, Henley,
Salisbury North. Leave it alone for god sake before they stuff up the competition even further

Are you saying the competition is 'stuffed already'? If so, what theory is that based on?

not knoking junior teams who are strong DW but to bring in a rule overnight would place those at a disadvantage. There
should be more of a time frame placed on it than next year. Perhaps 3-4 years, also can you imagine the paper work in trying
to figure out each week who has played the games against those points at Amateur League. Just too hard. Hard to do in Barossa
and Southern League with one competition let alone with 7 Divisions.

Points system for the Southern League is only coming in this year, the clubs that have been winning in the recent past all have very good junior programs, so to say it will advantage the teams with strong juniors is uneducated.

A team of good players who have played year in year out with each other will beat a team with 4 or 5 gun recruits that haven't played a lot of footy together.

IMHO paying players exhorbitant amounts, even if its just hearsay, creates divisions amongst the team.

That would be a bummer. It means all of that money going to the likes of a Clive Waterhouse would need to be ploughed into a strong junior programme

I would suggest that they would have a grace period of changeover for current players, and bring it in over a period of, say; 3 years

4 points:

1. New clubs like Golden Grove would be rewarded for their efforts - they have about 400 junior sides!!!
2. It still has to get passed by the clubs, at League level, which is the stumbling block
3. How do you treat Uni and the college sides?
4. Certainly would stop the "who's paying what" argument

Boozehound's article will be interesting - good read that. Done a good job so far =D> =D>

My crack at the points system,

Div1 = 150pts
Div2= 150pts
Div3= 130pts
Div4 = 120pts
Div5 = 115pts
Div6 = 100pts
Div7 = 100pts

Former AFL/SANFL footballer = 10pts

SANFL Listed player returning to leauge football through SAAFL (in writing from SANFL Club) = 8pts

SAAFL Player changing clubs and Dropping 2 or more Divisions in 24 months = 6pts

SAAFL player changing clubs and dropping only one division in 24 months, or player from different league = 5pts

Non-Junior playing at the club more than 24 months = 3pts

Junior of the club or playing at the club more than 36 months = 1pt

yes teams dropping divisions might have to loose players, but reward players sticking with a club for over three years! this would only apply for the A grade comps, Reserves could end up having more imports than the A's, but this would create depth in the competitions and would see sides and players develop! Also how many times do clubs loose quality juniors to div one clubs after being sent to an SANFL club, no loyalty shown by the SANFL clubs at all. "Go play at Port Districts/Salisbury North/Henley, go play Division One football" would be good to see the side say "go play Div One Reserves football!"

You left out my question:

Uni? Hard one to sort out

Colleges? Went to the school. I've always maintained that school footy have our underage sides. How about our school lads who play for clubs as well? Dual status?

The clubs will have to approve it so i actually dont think it will get up. Too much self interest
