Glenunga seem to be able to continue to sign afl/sanfl listed players with gay abandon.....will it prove to be a short term fix to satisfy a rich ego or two at the club and then see them spiral the way of the likes of Kilburn, Greenacres, Woody South to name but a few who chose a similar path to 'success' - and yes the junior program is strong but how many convert into A grade or are many college kids looking to play some sunday footy and when they leave school they play old scholars. Good luck to those at GFC as they seem to be rocking along and many will be interested in following their progress in 2024

I think Glenunga have shown, over the past 10 years or so, not only do they have an ability to attract quality players/people, they're also able to retain them. Glenunga and Golden Grove, to name two, are showing the fruits of the labour of hard work establishing a club that players (including juniors) want to play at. Sure, you get some college kids who end up playing with their Old Scholars team, but others stay the journey and end up playing with their mates at the Club.

Those other clubs you've mentioned are examples of one-hit wonders that fall by the wayside after their mercenaries move elsewhere.

GG and Glenunga are the best comparison, not a bunch of lower grade clubs

Just hope they don't allow betting on div 1 footy games. Otherwise he might miss a few games with a "hammy".

Having been intimately involved with the SAAFL / AdFL for the past 15 years, or quoted 10 years, I would disagree with your opinion about both clubs

I'm not sure exactly what you're disagreeing with.

The quality of players/people involved at both clubs.
The fact that some juniors will play for their Old Scholar teams, instead of their junior Club.
The other clubs were one-hit wonders.
All of the above?

I'd suggest your intimacy with Glenunga would be limited to a couple of years and even less with Golden Grove.,

Are these offers coming from AdlFl clubs? I hear about them from/of players in country leagues. Where; mostly I suspect they've added a bit of mayo to get more from an Adelaide based club, but this is surprising given the recent Gaza happenings.

10 years ago Glenunga was in Div 5 and GG Div 4. Not long before that both in Div 6. I'd say they've had their $hit together for a bit more than 2 or 3 years.

GG won the 2008 D5 Premiership
2009 - in D4
Although I dont have the records, I reckon:
1. They went up to D3 in 2010 and went back down to D4 in 2012 or 2013
2. They went up to D3 in 2017 - so that took 8 years to stick in D3


The 10 years starts in 2014
2014 - GG were in D4
2018 - Played in D3
2020 - won D3 Premiership (but an * year for everyone as no promotion / relegation)
2021 - limited season so another * year
2022 - won D3 Premiership - promoted to D2!
2023 - won D2 Premiership

2014 - 2017 (4 seasons) D4
2018 - 2022 (5 seasons) D3: 2022 - D3 Premiers
2023 - D2 - D2 Premiers

Overall, it took 14 seasons to get from D4 to D2
