Yes people do exaggerate the level of favours granted, but there'd be some no doubt.

Could Neil be grooming Vits for the senior role next year or will Neil be making a comeback himself?

C'mon boys there's got to be more to it than that? Surely coaches dont get sacked for keeping players off the piss?
So who has Gepps now exactly? Heard a few players that refused to play under the old coach have now come out and pulled on the boots - ie Scott Klenner former FB.

Heard that Jackson got sacked after continuing dissagreements with Bar Manager. Seems like the bar manager who is a loud mouth on game days and in the bar did not like Jackson trying to get him to change his uncouth behavior. His son plays in B grade and is just like his old man in causing trouble around the bar and Jackson had no time for either of them. The bar manager told football club they would not release any money to football club for player payments unless Jackson was sacked.
It is unbeleivable that a bar manager can have that much power but then again Gepps Cross has always been full of ferals with no idea about what makes up a successful football club. Maybe they should look down the road to the mighty Broadies to see how a good footy club should be run and that is not by a clown who never played footy at any decent level having too much to say. Gepps Cross will soon be back in the lower grades where they deserve to be. Maybe they should look at the common problem and sack the big mouth bar manager. Heard that the footy director who was doing a good job has resigned as he was abused by the bar manager. Therefore no coach and no footy president.

As Gepps Cross Junior Football Club secretary I can't speak for the Gepps Cross (senior) Football Club as we are seperate organisations. But, the Northgate Community and Sport Club manager, refered to above as the 'bar manager' has been totally supportive of the Junior Footy Club. He has 2 sons at the club, one an Under 15 and one a senior. The older boy has also been totally supportive and coached the 2006 Under 14's, as an 18 year old, and improved them dramatically. The Club Manager's job is to accomodate the Gepps Cross Football Club, the Gepps Cross Junior Football Club, the Gepps Cross Cricket Club, the softball, darts, 8 ball and soccer clubs and maintain a profit. He has turned the club around from financial disaster a few years ago to being profitable. Do you think that the Junior Club would have grown from 5 teams and 113 players in 2003 to 12 teams and 280+ players in 2007 if he was the character described above?

Hey Pearcey maybe you should go and watch some of your clubs senior games. Every club in Amateur League knows about your feral supporters who abuse the opposition and umpires each week and your bar manager is the worst. Might be different at Junior games particularly if he is not there but definitely an issue at your senior games. Its easy for junior numbers to get bigger when your area dynamics change but can you hang on to these players as they get older? At Broadview our Junior numbers are also increasing but they will hang on to play seniors as we do not have the bad mouthed peanuts your club has. Maybe you should venture out this week when we play your mob and see first hand how your supporters and paid staff behave at senior level when they are full of booze. I can assure you that it is not an environment for any young kids however.

I've been to many Gepps Cross senior games, as we sometimes have a mini-league game at 1/2 time. There have never been any issues with club management or spectators with the 5 and 6 year olds around. I've heard abuse from supporters of all clubs at senior games. Anyway, what ever you think about the seniors, they are nothing to do with the juniors.

One third of the current senior 'A' and 'B' squads are former Gepps Cross juniors.

As far as the dynamics of the area are concerned the new housing at Northgate has yielded a total of 5 players. Most of the younger children have tried other clubs in the past, one in particular - not Broadies. Based on the assumption that they, and their parents, are reasonably happy at Gepps - they keep bringing more and more and more mates out to play. If they weren't happy they wouldn't do that. Most of the older players, 11+, came due to the reputation of the Under 16's coach, even though they don't play in his team. Only 15 of 136 new players came directly from other clubs. Many others were so pissed off with their former clubs that they lost the desire to play footy for a year or two.

Another point - if the environment is like you say, how come 13 of the original 2004 Under 6 team are still running around at Gepps in 8's and 9's and some have played their 50th games this year.

I think you are missing the point, everyone has a bias to thier own club, but to say that you have never heard abuse from a certain person or as a supporter base is ludicrus. I have been at your games and without personlly knowing the guy, i know exactly who everyone is talking about. Every club has people who overstep the line of barracking, but its how you handle it. Now we know for a fact that the coach left due to reasons associated with the bar manager. As a Div 1 club, all concentration should be on what the coach wants and how you can help the coach win your club a flag, not self distruct half way into the season. The juniors are a different ball game, all clubs need and look after the juniors as they are the future of the club. So that doesn't surprise me that you have many players sticking around, that shouldn't be a great achievment, that should be normal.

I agree that having juniors playing from 5 to 16 or 17 years of age should be the norm. Sadly, the attrition rate is too high. There is so much pressure on teen boys with school, part time work, girl friends, etc etc, that it takes great commitment to train and play footy as well.
6 of our Under 13's, for example, are playing Friday nights with North, Saturday at school and Sunday at Gepps, plus they have non-footy lives to lead!

Only picked up one player from Broadies this year. At last Chris B will get a premiership medal!

Hey Pearcey that 1 junior player you got from us will no doubt come back once he gets to senior level and becomes aware of your senior club culture and supporter base.
It sounds like your bar manager has far too much to say and if you are to improve your reputation you are going to have to find a way to reign him in. Maybe someone needs to tell him his place although apparently the a grade coach tried that and look where it got him!

So if Gepps Cross, Houghton, Paralowie and Ingle Farm have all sacked/parted ways with coaches during this season, would that be some sort of Amateur League record? Four in one season (so far) is a fair number.

In reality all clubs have issues at senior and junior level, whether it be an 'A' grade team with a new coach or an Under 15's team with no coach, runner or parents!
I see the 'A' grade predictably lost to Broadies. 'B' grade won, though. Nearly 100% ex Geppies juniors.
