Dont know how you guys train out there at night it is so cold down at CLG oval. I realise the rain prob made it 10 times worse but it always seems so cold there. He is ok or i should say he is doing much better now wasnt so good when it happened, the hospital said they dont think it is broken but lots of swelling so they have to wait for that to go down to re xray it! I'll be surprised if it isnt broken it looked horrible i didnt even attempt to touch it just sent him straight to the hospital. Hospital said they think the cartilage has just taken a big knock and been pushed to the side.

Im sure he has some impressive black eyes by now

yeah its a cold place, i take it your the trainer who was looking for a bag for some ice for the poor guy?

I agree there is a shortage of umpires so what you get is what you get but it shouldnt matter if its div 1 or div 7 the rules are the same so the umpires should know what they are doing. They get paid so should know how to do the job. Do you not have to deal with these umpire every week cause i dont think you would be very happy if you did.

Dont want to just bag these guys they turn up each week and do the job and cop allot of shit and abuse for doing it but it is very frustrating and just think u r going to maybe see more of striking and verbal abuse towards umpires if something doesnt improve. Im not condoning that behaviour towards umpires but i can sometimes understand why some players feel like they want to hit them.

Totally agree with you! And unfortunately there is nothing you can do so i think that adds to the frustration. My fear is just that the abuse towards umpires is going to get worse. But i guess the penalties for this behaviour is extreamly high so this may keep people in line.

no excuse for attaking umps but the standard of umpiring causes players frustrations. Was always gunna happen where players become

that frustrated with the poor umpiring that they would crack. You should see the standard of umpiring down here. It is disgraceful. No excuse

for doing stuff to umpires but can fully understand why players are frustrated as umpires are completely shocking and getting even worse

My brother in law is league SANFL field Umpire and he also worked for the SANFL and we used to always get stuck into him saying could he send us some decent umpires but he always said there just isnt enough, you cant send some of the young blokes to do these games cause they dont have the control they need for some players in the lower divisions and the SANFL know allot of these older blokes are far from upto scratch but they register every year and there isnt anyone else to do it.

  No one is ever going to be happy with an umpire no matter how good they are. At the club i was with last year there was a guy who was a SANFL field umpire still young guy, he just preferred his beer and social life to the strict SANFL umpiring rules. He would sometimes umpire our B Grade games and people complained cause they werent used to that type of umpiring and said he was too hard and picked up everything and some things should be let go cause its lower div football???? so i guess as JM what can you do NOTHING. And proves no one will ever be happy with the umpires. Umpires fee's are going up and up so hopefully that attracts more younger people wanting to earn a bit of cash for a few hours work.

honestly dont know what all the whingeing is about. i reckon we have had one bad day where umpires may have influenced the result. over 18 rounds that is pretty damn good i think. if players are disciplined and get on with their job then umpires will umpire better. just think of how many mistakes each player makes per match and umpires would probably make less. been involved at div1 and 2 a lot of years and i dont think div 6 are any worse, cos the top umps get their fair share of criticism also
