Our side of the story, I cannot vouch for this as I did not see it -mypaddock wrote:1) Paul Wootton getting punched in the head about 6-7 times on the half forward line just before half time. This was by number 7, who I believe is your B grade coach. The umpire was 30 metres away and no report was made. Lucky Paul is a tough nut. Took the punches well.
Paul was picked to be given a hard tag in the last quarter as he was chopping us up all day. The Mitchell Park player was niggling Paul by punching and elbowing him in the back constantly. Paul reacted to this by turning around and punching the Mitchell Park player in the head. The Mitchell Park player then attempted to punch Paul in the head with 6 punches, 2 of which connected.
The Mitchell Park player was dropped by the coaching staff for this indiscretion.
Heard a completely different story - again, I cannot vouch for it, but - Nat was hit from behind by a Hectorville player which Luke witnessed. Luke then ran in and started to fight with the Hectorville player in remonstration. Both players were throwing punches, both players got sent off.mypaddock wrote:2) Terry Bignell- CHB/Full Back- was standing one of the McDonnell brothers. Was minding his own business and watching the play then Mcdonnell punches him square in the face for no apparent reason. Only reason I can think of was because he hadnt had a kick all day and was frustrated. This resulted in the other Mcdonnell brother running in and throwing punches. Both Terry and L. Mcdonnell were sent off for 10 mins.
Luke was also dropped by the coaching staff for this indiscretion.
This is a statement that has greatly angered many people at the club. The split jaw was a result from a head clash. Nothing but a football incident. The Mitchell Park player involved was also slightly injured, he is a life member of the club and has never once been reported, a fairer player you could not find.mypaddock wrote:Plus we had a broken nose and split jaw from two other cowardly acts.
The broken nose was another football clash where both players went for the ball and unfortunately the Hectorville player broke his nose. The Mitchell Park player inquired to the Hectorville players well being after the game as which point the Hectorville player replied with a "no worries and its just football incident" type comment.
Again, I would like to make the point that, yes, there were incidents the club regrets (which we have taken action against) from the game against Hectorville, however we feel they have been greatly exaggerated and blown out of proportion. Mitchell Park is not full of snipers and thugs and we totally and utterly reject any notion that suggests otherwise.
I hope this ends this matter so we can all move on play some footy!
