The coach at the end of the game was to be respected for coming over and giving us a talk about a similar situation their club went through.. Im not sure whether it was a clean contest because a few guys were out, but You guys were nothing but fair and the game was played in good spirit!!!

Does Mitchell Pks coach go over and talk to every club? Im sure i read he did to Paralowie and i know in the past he has done it to West Croydon. Does this come across as unusual to anyone? I know its the done thing after a GF.

When i was coaching i preferred to do it over a beer in the clubrooms home or away and have noticed thats how most clubs players and coaches do it. Thts why i found it unusual.....no biggy though. :D

Can anyone tell me what is the rule in the SAAFL for making a comment to a umpire after a free kick has been given (and i'm not taling about a abusive one). Last weeks game lockleys vs Central there were some terrrible calls made for both teams, esp against CU (very harshly dealt with in a couple of cases). Even comments expressing frustration to themself or there team mates. And the week before there was a free kick given away because of the someone in the crowd. I mean c'mon I can't see the umpires giving away a free in the AFL due to the crowd. I heard of this happening a few weeks ago as well, in that case involving free kicks due to the crowd and resulting in goals. It happens in most games most weeks involving BOTH teams. The league should look at something to stop the power trips that are currently happening. Just 1 more thing, do the umpires have to do any fitness training?? Alot of bad calls are due to the umpires not being able to keep up with the speed of the game.

We had a case in the B grade where one of our players said "That wasn't a mark" - He paid a 25m.

Then someone else said "you can't pay 25m for that" He paid another 25m.

I laughed on the sideline when the player was dragged but if it happened to me on the field I would have been rope-able.

I think umpires need to accept some verbal disagreement with their decisions. If its demonstrative or abusive, then yeah, throw the book at them.

A comment like that is exactly what I am talking about. Another one a player said "are you serious?" and was given a 25m. It is ruining the game and making plyers vry frustrated. I have no issues with a swearing back chat or a player that keeps going on about a free kick, but this isn't the case most of the time. On the weekend 1 umpire in particular gave away no less than 10 x 25m penalties. The game was played in great spirit and was very fair, but I felt was totally ruined by the umpires. Both teams were commenting to each other about how bad the umpires had become.

"toughen up"..yeah let the thugs do what ever they want..its their game remember??..one day you may have a son come home from a game with a broken jaw or nose from a gutless hit..will you tell him to "toughen up" to?

Browny, I know you didn't make the statement in the first place, but I think the problem is with the statement itself, because it is along the lines of "My wife is better in bed than your wife".

It is something that the person saying it has a biased opinion of even if they try and be objective, the same is true for the other person and there is absolutely no way known that it will ever be proved.

Essentially it is one of those things that even if you think it, you don't say it in public without expecting to make people angry or laugh... depending on how serious they think you are.

No he didn't but we have had him too  . To be honest every week we get different umpires and they seem to be getting worse. I know we are all in situation. Its not just bad for 1 side either, but for both. Its making me rethink whether to play div 6 next year or play in a div higher up. It just ruins a great game, makes teams frustrated and therefore some teams have players that do stupid things to vent there anger  . And Lightning, pretty much most of the guess who characters look exactly the same as our umpires, very clever, very amusing

No but last year i umpired D2res, D4, D5, D6, D7 and i've made my observation on that, is that cool??

Well that settles it for me a Div 6 side would beat a Div 1r side easy. As umpires don't even know what day it is I have to take the above comment as wrong.

I personally know 1 umpire that used to umpire in the SAAFL when I was playing elsewhere. His attitude towards umpiring was that it was a bit of spending money on the punt on a saturday. He would always joke about how he would send players off and give away 25m penalties. I wonder how many other current umpires do the same??

I think most umpires after a game would have a bit of a laugh about certain parts of the game, after all they'd just copped abuse for the best part of 2hrs, if you didn't laugh you'd probably cry!!

Not saying that it would be to belittle anyone. And of course they wouldnt have a giggle straight after the game, but maybe after a couple of beers they'd start talking about the game to some mates or players from the game if they hung around maybe??

After all, how many players after a game can have a laugh at something that happened during the game, or something that they personally did wrong, or something that some other guy did that was funny etc etc.

can't see the issue with being human??

your 100% spot on.as for the fifth spot except for the lodge the two teams that impressed me the most was west croydon and the roos.both had good structures, well coached and well drilled.the hawks cant get their players on the park and have a tough run home.your last game will detirmine your fait.in your own hands now.lockleys are the big disappointment two me.have everything a coach would want except for that bit of toughness.think if they keep their current structure they will not be going anywhere for a long time.trinity no certainties to maqke it either with a tough run and still a question mark over them if they have to come from behind.roos for me and then i think with your experience and if they follow instructions you can do real damage.
carey wrote:
dee man wrote:bad luck on saturday mate.would not count out the fact that trinity are a shoe in yet.they have 3 very hard games to finish off on.not suggesting to much but it could be that we could end up being your white knight on your run home to the finals with games against both trinity at the den and lockleys in the last game.hardest thing with us is which team turns up to play.
carey wrote:just on that final spot in the 5 being 5th of course it looks a 3 horse race between paralowie west croydon and lockleys with all sides being locked on 7 wins lockleys with 57.7% west croydon with 54.5% and paralowie with 49.9% with an interseting run home

lockleys have west croydon away, CLG at home and mitchell park home you'd probably think win 2 of these games and they are in.

west croydon have lockleys at home, B/L away and CLG at home very tough run home probably cant make it the losses against m.park and paralowie are going to cost them there season.

paralowie glenunga home C/U at home heccies away probably the best run home of the sides it may come down to percentage so playing glenunga and C/U may help dont deserve to play finals but who knows they may just make it.

what are peoples thoughts now on who will finish 5th?

the stupid thing is dee man should the switched on m/park rock up and put all the aggression towards the ball they can beat anyone no doubt about that so if you'd like to help us out i'd be more than happy with that who do you think will get that 5th spot?
