The guy who played in it, or the guy who wathced a half?

We would have won by more than 19 goals if we received more than just the 5 free kicks he gave us! I'd hate to see him umpire poorly if that was "very well"

Agree with you about the A grade game. It was embarrassing. Luckily the players managed to still make it a good game of football, even if the umpires were trying to ruin it!!

Been there done that. It was harder than I thought it would be. I just called it as I saw it though. I didn't make any decisions depending on what colour geurnsey someone was wearing.

Communication is the key. Umpires just need to talk to the players as though they are one of them, not above them.

It is a tough job and poor old Patty does make mistakes, but at the end of the day, we need him so he is trying to help out and his heart is in the right place.

They're not intentional as you insinuated and yes, sometimes he does jump the gun and change his mind, but I don't think he would umpire with bias if I paid him too. He's a sweet old bloke.

Surely you can understand that and give him a break. Having a crack at him for something that isn't deliberate is beneath you, because you've shown yourself over your posts to be pretty good at being impartial.

You're also fiercely loyal in defending you and yours if they are not shown respect.

How about doing the same?

From where I was standing the goal umpire had 3 big lads between himself and where the ball met the post. Some times when you stand back from a situation and look from the outside it is clearer to see than when you're right in the middle of something.

I think it's safe to say we share a difference of opinion and we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Luckily a new week of games approaches which will no doubt provide more debateable topics for us to dissect! ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this has been the best season I've seen as far as as unbiased B grade umpires, I haven't come across any that have had a different agenda than to umpire the game to the best of their ability, as for Patty, he makes mistakes, there is no way he is bias though.
It is an absolute pig of a job, you are placed under scrutiny at every contest and you'll upset someone whichever decisions you make or don't make. It would be far easier in a neutral situation, far less pressure.

pat was alright on saturday.
i'll take field umping over goal umping any day. you dont have to worry about posts and goal lines.
our ump penalised our full back twice for stepping on the line on a kick out in the b's on saturday so he's definitely not biased

Had the A grade umps turn up nearly 20 minutes late on Saturday.....wonder if they get fined and would a saafl fine for late submission on i score be realistic because of this fact?

That's because they came from umpiring a Div 1 Reserve game, the league should have notified you of this.

I see you had the Wiegand/Maddern combination...you poor blokes, the worse combo going around in the amateur league....both these blokes have had complaints lodged against them all year but seems it falls on deaf ears ~x(
The A grade games would be better off just having the B grade or club umpires doing two games than having Trevor umpire.
He is a waste of time and money and every game he has umpired has turned into an absolute debacle.
Worst umpire in australia, if not the world!

Seriously would consider not playing if I rocked up to a game with him umpiring again. just no point in playing because its just not a game of football, not a sport played by rules that anyone knows other than what he makes up. I feel sorry for the other umpires who have to umpire with him. Also, would seriously be worried for his safety on some occasions. Need to protect him and some times need to protect players from their own poor choices sometimes. From my understanding some have already taken the life-time retirement trip due to his performances.

I know its hard with umpires, but he has to go!

None the less, I'm sure Rosies will be fired up for Plympton this week. I'm sure more than a few remember the rubbishing they copped from Plympton in their newsletter several years ago.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.
