Yeah Duncs opens his mouth to soon sometimes but in blokes defence there was ten regular C grades missing today some played up with injuries in As and Bs and some working so 57 point loss i can under stand that.So i wouldnt get to carried away with the win in the As or C s today just take the win while u can or u be the one eating their words next time around.

The North Haven bloke I think it was, who criticised the Uni umpire, saying he was a blatant cheat and a disgrace..

I second that motion..

Uni's were good yesterday, and regardless of the umpire, they set up the game in the first qtr with the breeze before the ground got boggy and goals became hard to come by, 20 points down at qtr time was always a long way back in those conditions, and in a game where 10 goals were kicked, it was a bridge to far for us.

Across the 4 grades we have something in the range of 25 blokes out, never has our club been so injury ravaged, but we still managed to scrape 21 together, so credit to the blokes who fought it out all day.

and credit to Uni blokes for being a pretty decent set of lads..

Big Game this week against a revitalised North Haven, should be a good one

Just some friendly stirring guys. if u pay attention u would notice NH is the only club id make comments pre game about.
They had some good b graders running around yesterday, made the difference, we were poor and lazy. Us older blokes are happy for the 2 week break and start it all again against Plympton in a few weeks.

This is the first year he has umpired and is learning every week. He probably does let the play go a bit too much, but I guess its good that he is consistent with it and not biased towards either side. Agreed that protection needs to be given to the ball carrier. Our umpire is given feedback each week from the coaching staff and he is very keen to work on things to improve.
He has played a lot of footy and does understand the game, he just needs some more "game time" as an umpire to gain more experience. We all know how hard volunteers are to come by, so we will continue to work with him and develop him into a better umpire for what we hope is a number of years to come.

Umpiring aside, it was a great win for HV and one that sets us up for a decent crack at the top 3, with 6 out of our last 8 games at home. We have now used 55 different players so far this year, so it will be nice to settle the side down in the run home

He needs to work on which free's he's actually allowed to pay and when he can pay them as well. That centre square infringement helped you guys on your roll somewhat. I don't put it down to cheating, just completely buggering up the rules.

PS i still feel like i have spinabifida after having my spine destroyed right in front of the ump, the play on call i though was slightly harsh.

Being a club umpire is a very hard gig, you will always cop crap whenever you don't pay a 50/50 free, you'll cop it when you do. You get criticised for being biased from the opposing club, you get criticised for trying so hard to not be biased that you rip your own club off.
It will never happen but it would be far easier to umpire a neutral game 5 minutes away from where you aligned club is playing.

You don't have to tell me LM, having done it i cop more from my home team than i do from the opposition. But my personal view is that if you are going to do it, then at least check out the rules, so that simple mistakes aren't made. Interpretations of rules are different, but just getting rules incorrect is a bit annoying.

i think you find the centre square infringement was for your water boy being in the centre square when he was ready to throw the ball up.

I think you'll find that the umpire should not be ready to throw the ball up intil the boundary umps are in place, which occured on each other centre bounce. The players and all other support staff on the ground generally use that as a guide for how long they are allowed to be in the centre. And it is a free kick that should be paid by the boundary umpire, not the central ump.

On this occasion both the boudary umps were nowhere near the points of the square, thus a free kick cannot be awarded.

just about the half way mark of the season, and its veryb tight in the top 5... only 2 games between top and 5th... and only % separates 2nd, 3rd and 4th... Should be another intersting week this week, and a VERY interesting 2nd half of the season....

Good luck to all teams this week...
