Well I'm same age as this Benzie and he wasn't at centrals

You sure? I was sure I remembered him playing a couple of games. Must be wrong.

Probably not wrong, he's actually a year older, just thought about it, if he did though it would have only been a handful

hey superboot, i think you will find last years div 5 premiers are quite a different side that Haven smashed by 10 and 20 goals in 2006. So are the Div 5 runners-up. So Division 4 can take Fitzroy and Adelaide Lutheran lightly if they wish this season but i wouldnt suprised if they are a lot more competitive than that based on Para Hills ans Mitcham's form in Div 4 last year.

From what I heard bondy there side didn't change an awful lot at all and we take no opposition lightly, infact we have the motto of never being satisfied till the siren sounds, that's why we smashed em each time

I agree Bondy I think Fitzroy are a well oiled machine and Lee Penrose (if still the coach) is a very inspirational leader out there at the Roys. Played juniors against Lee and he was a very smart footballer, good to see him giving something back to the game.

My mistake boys, I thought Adelaide Luth won flag, but finished minor premiers and then got done didn't they

Yeah fitzroy won't be too bad, probly bit unlucky to even go to Div 5 at end of 06. But do NOT rate Ade Luth

see thats the thing, i didnt think they were going to be very good last year either superboot, as did they btw, but they definately suprised me in 2007. im not one to give college or school side much credit, but Lutheran were actually a very good side last season.

Whether they still have the same squad in 2008 i dont know, but they were and long way better than i expected in 2007.

Fitzroy unlucky to get relegated on 2006 !!! Huh !!! Them and Lutheran were both woeful that year.

Para Hills did recruit very well last year, and Mitcham have very good depth throughout their club.

It might not be a case of D4 teams under-estimating Fitzroy and Lutherans, but maybe Fitzroy and Lutheran under-estimating D4. They wont be the bottom 2, IMO, but they wont be the top 2 either.

both fitzroy and AL will be quite a handful for div 4 teams..the AL team imo was actually classier than fitzroy but it didnt count in the GF..they were a very good team AL and dismiss them at your peril superboot

maybe both those games u beat elizabeth was when u had a big influx of port juniors not playing for their club that weekend :))

i think he was saying zedman that they didnt flog elizabeth, but they flogged AL and they were grand finalists in Div 5 last year, so Elizabeth would be worst than AL.

I agree on Lee Penrose GS.
He, Steve Couzner and Russell Kerley were three of the best juniors I knew playing for other teams playing back then.

That exactly what I was sayin Bondy Good work! Not too sure what ya meant with port juniors bit???

BUt I think it's worth being said that each divisional rise presents its challenges for the two clubs coming up (unless they recruit very well, as in the case of Para and Mitch) However in saying that both those teams very beatable, they just had a really good run with depth and injury.

The top 4 sides in div 4 would be considerably stronger than that of any Div 5 side and that's not having a go. That's just the facts. Haven would knock off a 6th place Elizabeth as easy as a a Top 2 Div 3 SMOSH would knock off Haven. There's just more depth of quality.

I dont think thats right. Im sure they have a few at times, but not huge amounts. I wouldn't think Haven would get anymore SANFL juniors playing for them than any other club.

I dont think getting an influx of U17's into your A grade would make too much difference anyway - U19s could boost the side.

i think you will find it was a very common thing at havens....maybe not as much now..i would take port adelaide u/17s in my A grade side anytime, they are fit, energetic and come from a sanfl discipline..if your u/19s youve prolly missd the boat anyway and arent up to it...some weeks haven couldnt beat anyone then when port would have a bye in the sanfl suddenly haven would knock off clubs above it easily..its not a fantasy..this HAS occured in the past..there are 9 sanfl clubs so only 9 saafl clubs in theory can get any benefit from the junior grades at sanfl clubs..

umm trial mathes for 2008. funnily enough after this latest conversation, Smithfield play North Haven at North Haven on Easter Thursday night I believe, and then play Gumeracha at home on the following friday night.

The Magpies dont send all their players back to one club - even though they would probably like to. Magpies under-age players go back and play at a mixture of clubs - Pt Districts, Haven , Portland, SMOSH, Rosies, Seaton etc.

From my experience, most U17s are not strong enough for A grade footy (there are exceptions). Bear in mind im talking D4, im guessing D5 isnt that much of a drop, especially the top sides. Very few U17s from Port would come back and play A's at our club - B grade, no worries.

The other thing is that quite often, when the underage teams have byes, their coaches demand that their players have a week off. I know the Magpies have enforced this quite a few times over the last 2 years.
