[quote="Falcon Chick"]They're still within about a 10-15k radius, which make it hard to compete.

Well then u should add Hope Valley, Modbury, TTG, Golden Grove
None of those clubs seem to struggle to get juniors
Weak argument I think

If the juniors switch clubs it's mostly around the mentioned clubs Ashman, they just seem to be bunched together. Different demographic out the north east, breed em like rabbitts, bloody TTG have 310 under 8's teams, the Bangaladesh of NEMJFA.

My point was that no other side in the area seems to struggle to put jnr sides on the park so why is Pooraka? One team for a whole club - seems a bit strange.

Perhaps a lack of trying or promotion from Pooraka's part..you'd think with Mawson Lakes at their doorstep they would get a plethora of kiddies who's parents wanted to avoid the Salisbury Clubs (no offence anyone..)

but lets face it.. a 5 minute drive up the road and you're at Gepps Cross, a div 1 club.. A 5 min drive down the road and you're at Para Hills...where would you go?

My point being that all the kids who would be interested would already be signed on.

Had a strange one this arvo, a Mum in our 10's team was distraught because they entered a free comp at a family day or something, no notice of the prize was advertised. She recieved a phone call yesterday asking why her son was'nt out at Pooraka because he'd won a junior membership. She had no idea what the comp was for apparantley & in her words they were quite adament it was all above board & demanded her son rolls up next week, nothing on paper, just a call.
He'd already signed on with his schoolmates at Fitzroy some 4 weeks ago.
Could be interesting.

Edit-sorry for the sidetracking

I think all clubs have the issue of local competition.Within a 10 km radius of Kenilworth we have a hell of alot of other clubs (Morphettville Park,Happy Valley,Marion,Brighton,Mitchell Park,CLG,Goodwood,Edwardstown,Flaggstaff Hill,Blackwood,Scotch College,Unley,Mitcham + others.) Think thats not the indicator, the end of the day footy does go around in circles and in a few years you might be the recipitent of a hell of alot of juniors.Footy is a funny game and we all go through our rough spots.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

Pooraka have Under 12's and Under 14's in NEMJFA this season, plus some younger grades.
Last season their Under 11's and 13's were very good teams, the 13's making the grand final. Unfortunately they played like a team that was scared to lose. Seemed to be under a lot of pressure on the day, where as our kids just went out to have some fun. They were the most talented team Geppy's 13 played last year. Many of them came from North Pines, apparently.
Every club will go through highs and lows in terms of player numbers over, say, a ten year period.
Last year even the mighty Walkerville struggled for numbers in some grades, while PNU boomed.
It's all cyclic.
At Geppies we COULD have 20 teams is we promoted ourselves more but all we did this year is send some flyers to schools.
The most important factor in bringing players is word of mouth. So many players bring their mates out because they enjoy it. Most of this year's new Under 16's were brought to the club by current players because the current players enjoy the environment. If they were being screamed at and humiliated by the coaches, and that DOES happen at some clubs, they wouldn't encourage their mates to play, would they.
It's interesting that another local club, which no longer fields juniors, has suggested we lure players with free rego and boots.
Well, like most clubs we have a boot bank and we will give a used pair of boots to a kid who haven't got any. Also, anyone can sponsor a player. If a family knows a kid who wants to play but can't afford the $70 fee then that family is welcome to pay the kid's fee. But, one way or another, EVERYONE plays their fee.
On Pooraka, doesn't their junior president's son play for another club in Under 15's? Hmmmmmmmm.
By the way we are still looking for 5 to 8 year olds and some 12 year olds.

apparently last season (2007) Pooraka moved their under 14s side up to Ingle Farm, not sure of the reason though.

I don't think they moved them. I believe they just packed up and went to Ingle Farm. Possibly a coaching issue but I really don't know.
