If the question is about how many footy players are in different areas, surely you would have to count every football player, no matter what grade

Agree HH3, hence the "player catchment" work I did last year in the clubs in strife thread I think Mr Beefy linked to.

You still have Ovies;

Also, if we're including C Grade grounds we're going to do well with the 50 metres boundary to boundary between Park 9 and 10
OK, not including Ovies, or C Grade grounds, the top 5 are:

1. Unley and Mitcham: 829.84m
2. Gepps Cross and Greenacres: 849.98m
3. Prince Alfred Old Collegians and St Peter's Old Collegians: 885.87m
4. Adelaide University and Prince Alfred Old Collegians: 1245.48m
5. Flinders University and Kenilworth: 1269.16m

We appear to have forgotten Pulteney and Luthies - 1.5km

These guys are lucky as people generally don't leave one parklands club to go hang out in another parklands club (or go from one school to another)

2.0km between Luthies and Old Iggies

Pulteney to CBCOC - 2.4km

2.4km from SPOC to CBCOC

A lot of junior teams in that bunch.
Keep going...

Red line is 5km.

Classic miscalc people always make. 5km all the way around in a circle is a BIG area.

I couldn't place Pulteney exactly...the address I had was Cnr of South Tce and Unley Rd. If that is accurate the distance to Luthies is about 1.8km.

So do we measure from the middle of the oval? or the address? Or the club rooms?

Good lesson in the importance of the accuracy of Geographic data :) - pay your location experts more $$$ everyone!!

I went from the school, which would be a difference of around 50m

Can you reduce this down to 3km Morrell?

This would be interesting to see in a 3km/2km fixture for north south and western clubs too and would give a more visual indication of just how saturated some areas are.

How about:

Club | Number of Clubs within 3km | Number of Clubs within 5km

that would've been harder than the circles

the circles just look like mangled olympic logos

I more meant diving Adelaide into 4 and going from there ;)

Here is a blended density map, using 2km, 3km and 5km ring for each club. When these rings overlap, they blend together, meaning the darker the colour, the more "saturated" the area is:

So to me, the North East is the area to grow into. Out towards Greenwith way.

EDIT: Also known as a nipple map! haha.

Based on your previous work the corridor along North East Road is ripe for the picking.

Dernancourt/Gilles Plains/ Wynn Vale Footy Clubs?

Indeed, you're spot on. Those two maps almost correlate to each other which makes sense.

If Golden Grove don't become a super club they're doing something wrong.

That's their plan.

I'm only surprised that no one has started a Wynn Vale Footy Club or a GG/ Gleeson Old Scholars side.

I'd go a Dernancourt FC - walking distance!

St Pauls is in Gilles Plains, so that answers that questions.

Where's the index thingy for the last map?

Football rich demographic in the north east too.
