I heard the SFL have tentative plans for 27th June start up.

No details of the format, by then let's hope we've had zero cases for at least 4 weeks.

Flu season will have an impact around this time as anyone around the club with a sniffle will have to be tested immediately.
One person gets it, it'll be spread through the entire club pretty quickly.

Good luck to the decision makers its gonna be an interesting time.

SANFL/Community Football will make sure all comps start on same weekend I would think, be very surprised if they leave it up to each league/controlling board

Dont the CFL have a responsibility to protect clubs from themselves as they have mandated by their Salary cap and Player points system?

There is only 2 ways this can happen for community football to start up.
Either we start with unlimited crowds and bars open or they mandate that no players are to receive any payments this year. I cant see any other way for clubs to survive.

You would hope they'd work together. Metro clubs will go broke if this isn't mandated.

Yes we pay players just like every other club in the state. Whats your point?

My view is all clubs will probably need to cut costs (e.g. player payments) or find other revenue streams to remain viable for 2020. Where there's a will, there's usually a way.

Those clubs that can't (or not willing) to cut costs or find alternate ways of generating revenue simply don't nominate any teams for 2020 and start to focus on 2021.

Footy clubs and sport remain an integral part of young men and women's development and physical + mental wellbeing it would be a shame to lose sight of what really is important -winning flags or promoting participation in amateur competitions. If promotion/relegation are off the table for this season, who really cares. I'm sure the players just want to get out there, if the government says it's OK I say let them play.

Supposing we only have half a season we play, surely players/coaches will take reduced remuneration? Personally at the moment, i'd take nothing, just want to get back out and into it.

I'm not sure though that a reduced season would greatly impact costs though would it? Most paid players would be on a per game rate, clubs would still have some sponsors already on board and should've really already had the finances budgeted away before the season started - cant spend what you don't have?

I also think that after all this, clubs will get a nice boost back at the clubs on Saturday nights.. especially if night clubs remained closed for a little longer, people will be keen to socialise and catch up on missed time.

Next year we should go to 8x team divisions, top 4 finals - 1v2 double, 3v4 elim.. 14 game minor round + june long weekend off + finals. 19 week season.

Gain an extra couple weeks either side of the season before/after cricket.

Div 1 can remain 10 team comp.

Cricket can shorten their season to 19/20 weeks as well.

Might actually see more participation and commitment in both sports.

Just read a news article that the PM just announced social distancing will remain until a vaccine is created - How that looks probably remains to be seen but you would think that means local contact sports In an uncontrolled environment won’t be returning any time soon.

I was thinking about this today - walked up the road to Bunnings on Churchill Rd and it was packed..lineup was three rows deep.. notes everywhere "keep 1.5m from the person in front.

Then I looked to my left and right and was almost shoulder to shoulder and thought hmm something doesn't make sense here.

Traffic getting busier each day, even at 4am when I went to work today there was still a fair bit of traffic around, the last few weeks it’s been dead at that time of morning.
The Mrs works on Grenfell St and said that over the last 3-4 days when she goes out for lunch that Rundle Mall is getting busier each time

and then tomorrow the Premier will come out and say that everyone is doing the right thing. Alot of ovals pretty well have heaps at them now throughout the day, least they are all keeping distance with what ever their activities are but these shopping centres etc are ridiculous

Only takes one of these clowns to have the virus and presto watch out, hopefully here in SA if thats the case we dodge that bullet

My expectations are that the community footy league will announce a round one date as early as tomorrow.

4 days in a row with zero cases in South Australia and down to 23 active. This could be single figures by next week

Would be nice but I strongly doubt it, May 11 would be the absolute earliest for any football announcement.

That's when the AFL are making their announcement isn't it? You'd think no competition beneath that would make any announcements before the AFL, so I think you may be correct.

Monday, May 11 still gives like 5 weeks until June 13 - ample time to resume training and be ready for "Round 1".

Yep.

They won't have community football starting up before AFL.

It's a difficult one, how long do they expect the public to live in fear of it, how will we ever know that it is under control or zero'd out? What happens if there's a massive spike a few weeks after lifting restrictions?


I'm hating every aspect of this but I'd like to know that the Government have 100% assurance in what we're doing is right, apart from being a little slow to begin with I think the federal government have done pretty well since, we've hardly heard from Steve Marshall so I'll take that as a win so far.

May 11 is only two weeks away, surely people can last until then.. interestingly we have only so far missed 3 games haha.

Our work is beginning plans to return to office and have operations return to normal over the next two weeks, suspect most will begin following.

Two weeks also allows some wiggle room if things turn bad rapidly in the coming week to push back.

He's literally been giving a press conference every day.

And you'll never get 100% assurance, such is the nature of this thing. Need to play the percentages and determine risk/reward.
