Says it all doesn't it. Best team in the SAAFL can't have a player play "state football" but some one not quite up to that level gets a state jumper based on their age. What a joke!!!

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

Unfortunately, you are correct FE. For staters it is not State Football, but representative football. You can dress it up however you want, but it is not State Football.

Unless played pre-season, you just can't blame the players, clubs and coaches from not embracing the representative football system. You are right, it should be "Open Age State Football" and only played pre-season. Just too many players, clubs and coaches just want this weekend off to recover from injuries. You can't blame them either as most D1 and D2 clubs have many injuries at present and guys have been training since late last year and again after Christmas since early January. Too much money and effort goes into D1 and D2 football these days, for it too be fully embraced in the middle of the season. Years ago was fine, but the system has changed with club football having far more relevance to the players now, especially at the higher levels.

Just will never work in the middle of the season any longer, which is just something that year after punishing year, is repeatedly being told to the SAAFL through players being unavailable and voting by their feet, in wanting to play or not. Most clubs and coaches would be delighted if they did not have one of their stars playing, and that is not right either, but more a sign of the times and what is thought of U23 representative football.

Heard that Jordan Erskine is no longer required at port. Anybody from SN confirm if he will continue this season with the hawks?

Any truth to the rumor Anderson will be sacked if Gepps X don't beat SHOC next game with Neil Rawlings to come in and save the day again?

Will continue his services at Salisbury north for the rest of the year. Look for him to make a massive move for the leading goal kicker for the comp.

As passionate as I have been about Rep footy the fact remains, over 23's who get good coin at Div 1 @ 2 look forward to the break and why on earth would they risk topping up their incomes by getting injured. Under 23's love the challenge and it adds to their status, hence increasing their ability to earn more and then get the weekend off in years to come.

Interesting, Burnett back to Stalisbury West I would say and Erskine back to Salisbury North. What about Shannon, Sharpe and Wellington? I think Shannon is from the country?

Unfortunately a number of the U23 players are unavailable as well (for whatever reason). Even with a free trip to Tasmania thrown in as icing on the cake, as opposed to the 10 minute halves debacle here in SA last year, Agreed entirely, that even the Open Age State Side should not be played on the long weekend, for the reasons outlined above and is obvious to most. Play the games pre-season, and you can almost guarantee that clubs, coaches and players will be far more willing to be a part of it, and participate. This includes both U23 representative sides and Open Age State Football. Clubs and coaches ultimately will decide if their top line players will play, for a host of reasons, so just play the games pre-season and this yearly saga, with State and representative football should go away. Clubs just invest too much time and money into their football programmes in 2012 in risk injury to their key players.

I can tell you that no player decides not to play rep football due to risking an injury and maybe missing out on match payments. That's a ridiculous thing to say. I have always put my hand up to play rep footy and have loved every game I played. And the thought of maybe getting injured and missing a club game has never entered my head.
Most others decide not to play purely for the fact that they want and need a week off. Maybe they're going on holidays, or need to spend the weekend off with the family.
And no club coach, no matter what people may think, would ever tell a player not to play rep footy.

I've seen Scotty Burnett listed several times to play ressies this season only to see him playing for Salisbury West come Saturday's. Interesting considering he won the U/18 medal last season.

Yes I have seen and made note of that a few times and yes agreed LM, very interesting looks like he was just making/missing out playing reserves each week, I honestly thought he'd make the reserves 21 each week no worries.

Sack Greg Anderson? When do you think clubs will realise how fortunate they are to have the experience of exAFL players teaching their group - it isn't always about winning matches but teaching both kids & adult players how to be better. Maybe Gepps Cross simply aren't good enough. Round 16 last year relegation looked likely then the results fell their way and they stumbled into the 5, so maybe Div 2 is where the club belongs. And I hear the highest paid player "forgets" where the oval is on training nights so that can't be good for the team morale. But of course, some clubs like to model themselves on "AFL best practice" and this always ends badly when these leaders move on. If I was involved at Gepps I would be making sure now that Greg Anderson didn't go anywhere.
