Yes I agree they are bit of a joke and people sign a few of them, that is what I thought time stamping them stopped.

It protects a club that signs one of their players for the next season, that player can't shop themselves around after that point and deny the contract existed. It also helps if a club wants to refuse a transfer on the basis they don't believe a player has requested a transfer. But while the SAAFL are required to use the Community Football contract and that contract states "this contract does not come into effect until the player has been cleared from his previous club/league (if applicable) the situation won't be resolved.
