If salisbury north have been losing points for incidents like this, i feel sorry for them. Other than that the game was high quality with the hawks run and fitness to much for payneham in the end. If salisbury nth can play like this next week they can give ttg a shake but the wolves at home are always tough.

That it was deemed simultaneously worthy of a red but not a 25 was very perplexing.

The bloke who was reported wont get any games. I was standing 30 metres from it and nothing in it
Umpire did even pay the 25 metre. Nothing to worry about
Loved going to the game and having the game called on the radio. First time I've heard it but brilliant,
Well done C9 AFL starting that

I think you'll find the guys from the SA Footballer Magazine organise and run the live radio call, not the SAAFL.

Will anything happen to the umpire if player in question is let off? Surely can't be going around throwing red cards like anything.

One would hope not unless some kind of grand conspiracy was uncovered.

Surely some sort of punishment. Missing out on the rest of the finals? All you need to do is rewatch the game to see that 1 umpire had an "off day" and made a lot of bad decisions, both ways might I add, but mainly toward one team.

Only advice i have although sometimes easier said than done is, Have someone video tape the games. There are people that do it for a living and for the live call i do with the others there's a guy that charges stuff all to do it and it comes back perfect. A little expense when it comes to having a player available. I know what i would rather have. We did it this year and not only does it help with structures and so on, but from past experiences with reports coming in 7 weeks after the fact etc. having video, concrete video evidence is key.

The Umpires have a coach and observers whose job it is to deal with things like this appropriately.

Have to trust the system will work itself out.

If it gets to the point where there is a witch hunt for every umpire who has a report/card chucked out after the fact we might end up with some very gun shy umpires which isn't exactly a palpable alternative.

Do you mean palatable alternative? gun shy might be better than trigger happy

I do.

And given the emphasis on player safety and eradicating (as far as possible) unsavoury acts (which I don't suggest the one under question to be) I suggest trigger happy is the League's far preferred position to gun-shy.

A suggestion by the Umpire's Coach that if there is doubt the Umpire should be utilising 25 m penalties/yellow cards before going to a red, and that this will be considered in assessing performance when selecting this week's panel should be more than sufficient in my view.

For the record there were a number of senior umpires observing the game on Saturday so I'm sure it'll be considered at Umpire's training during the week.

Heard an interesting rumour the other day that McIntosh might be on the way out from PNU. Possibly taking a step back for a little while.

I hope the Salisbury North player gets off tonight. PNU have tried to help his cause. Now it's just up
To the SAAFL to do the right thing.
And you have to applause PNU for that.

It's not a 2017 thread I know, but goodies have already stocked up for next season.
They've already signed both Tuck boys, a ruckman, and a CHF.

Lookout!

Both Tucks!!?

Biggest Danger of giving Goodies an extra few months to load up. Canniest operators in the League, especially given they usually don't start until October!

Ps something something TPPS

Hmm, I'd heard they may have been heading out Gawler way.
