Toddle off back to Div 5 thread.
I wonder if we will ease ourselves into trial games again this season with another game against your club?

Keep saying that about div 5. I love it!! :D Sounds so good to finally be out of div 6!

Not sure what we've got in mind as far as trial games go. Don't see why not though, this years game was quite good for a trial game. stinkin hot, but of a good standard and both teams made the GF in their respective division so we could be on to something there! (no, i'm not saying we're both going to make the GF in our new divisions before you all jump down my throat)

They knocked you guys off though, I reckon they'll get some players back this year with no Francis, I hear Broady's not coaching at United so they might get a couple back from there. I heard all of the Westies team got a minimum payment last season, win, lose or draw, pretty crap way to try & get the best out of players if they are going to get the same amount whatever the result.

so your saying at smithfield if theres not a win incentive guys wont put in 100%??? would of thought anyone who plays sport plays to win regardless the result. yeah a small few might like that added incentive but seems by that comment that your players wont have a dip unless theres a carrot dangling for the win?

I had Ovingham on there but it mysteriously dropped off, not that I played there, I just liked the name "Tantanoola".

Smithfield only have "best player" incentives, IMO, if you're going to fork out "x" amount per game for a whole team, I would think that it would be be better to have a higher win payment and decrease the lose payment. Some players can just go through the motions rather than dig deep late in the game knowing they are going to get the same reward at the end of it.

Let's face it, money talks and an extra $30 or $40 for the night ahead can certainly make players find a little extra.

I have to disagree LM. We've had both systems at Kilburn and when we had a higher payment per win I never tried harder than with a flat payment. I think it's a very bad sign that the game is on the line and you are thinking about money. That just shows a lack of desire to win.

im with you fisty, you definatly wouldnt be thinking about the coin going in your pocket when the ball game is on the line.
but on the other hand i like the idea of getting more money for when you win than you do for a loosing game, just for the fact that your rewarding the teams good work and all players would be lying if they didnt like being rewarded after working there knackers off and getting there side across the line at the final siron

They are all opinions, I just think there are better ways than flat rates, I do agree that coin shouldn't determine effort, I'm sure it happens though, especially where injuries are concerned. If the game is on the line and you have a bit of a niggle, some players might shirk the issue to enable their availability the following week to keep the extra cash coming in.

I'd feel like I've ripped the club off if I got paid and we got drubbed when the week before we knocked off a quality side and got the same rewards.

You are both pretty much referring to your own characteristics, you both seem like pretty passionate club people who would battle it out til the end, what you said at the end of your post hits the nail on the head piccachu, a little extra reward goes a long way for working your knackers off to get over the line.

Any match payments or awards I ever received ALWAYS went back over the bar that night.

all good points but i think you should only get the coin for a win.
Our boys get beer tickets for a win and nothing for a loss, this seems to work well, a few free beers to kick start a sat night.
i dont know if you heard me, but i did over a thousand
