Is that a different Callum Hay? If so I suggest he gets on to the AFL and gets his record corrected.

To be fair, the picture on that link looks nothing like him.

Where does it tell you the number of games he was suspended for? i can't see it.

It doesn't. It confirms that he played U18s for North Adelaide after Gazza's Scalp said he never played U18s.

Did he get suspended or reported earlier or not then Jo172? Where did you get that info from?

Interesting that this has now gone from a Facebook rant to a channel 7 news issue.

On tangents it's been amusing how petty channel 7 have been in pursuing negative Adelaide Footy League stories since the Channel 9 sponsorship.

Would love to see someone put their Rumbleow and Hay stories side by side. My suspicion is that they both result in the league being cast in a negative life.

In any event I'd hope Northies are smarter than trying to pressure/shame the League into doing something. I'd bet anything on publicity only hardening their existing position

Having now seen the initial sling tackle that started this all, I have even less sympathy for Callum.
SN players directly at the tackle didn't even react, it was simply an unfortunate footy incident that saw a player knocked out.
Callum took it upon himself to run half way across the oval, start a melee, sling an opponent to the ground then shove an umpire. No way we want this guy in our league.

As for the talk of destroying his football career, he's just been told he can't play in our league, he's free to play anywhere else, and that's where I suggest he belongs.

Where can we see the initial tackle? Is there a video somewhere?

It's definitely hard to argue with the suspension for him pushing the umpire.
I think a smaller suspension for the wrestling with the players is the best they could have hoped for unfortunately. Maybe down to 1-2 weeks. This would've put him under the 12 weeks total then.

Thoughts?

A bit unfortunate that the leagues names is getting dragged through the mud here too.

In all honesty those games are way way off so no idea who they are administered by. That said, I could be incorrect about U18s, although I do know college football took priority over younger grades (yes the irony of the whole college vs club convo in this is he is a college boy).

Not sure where you find suspension/report history but can guarantee he has never served any suspension prior. That's me done defending my background knowledge

My focus isn't on the initial penalty. It can't be changed. It was more a matter of if he deserves a second chance. Maybe my fault for bringing his playing history into it but what I wanted to highlight is that he has spent time in the AFL and SANFL system and when you are in the system you spend a lot of time participating in junior football club and community building initiatives. That must give some runs on the board in regards to a contribution to the game. We are an inclusive league and the community encourages rehabilitation and second chances... we can all acknowledge there's a lot of growing up to do when you're 21 so I'm sure he has matured since the event.

After watching all the footage rather than the original footage posted I have absolutely no doubt the league has done the right thing.

Time to let him go.
Good to see the league stay strong.

Wow, there really wasn't much in the initial "sling tackle" at all. Furthermore looking at the whole video he did well not to get charged with being the instigator of the melee.

I'm also not sure that pointing to good deeds done before the de-registration is going to carry as much weight as deeds done after the de-registration.

So, what is the latest with Callum Hay? I notice Salisbury North have cleared him to play at Virginia. I assume he is going to play at Virginia in 2017 and apply to be re-registered again next year? Or, is he still exploring ways of getting back to Salisbury North/SAAFL this year?

My take on it is that it's a closed book for this year and yes it seems as though he will be lining up for Virginia in the APFL.

If he goes back to Virginia, surely he will still need to do some volunteer work/coaching/umpiring as well still? Otherwise come 2018 it'll be no different to this year will it?

I would think so, if John Kernahan has stated that then all he can do is comply, Salisbury North have a strong junior program so I'm sure there's plenty he can do out there.

He's only interested in playing, as he stated on the news last night. Time will tell to see how keen he is to come back.
