Out of curiosity how many did clubs have on the bench in the A Grade?
We went 22 in a-grade and 25 in reserves

Lonsdale went with 25 in the A grade and we went with 21. Apparently an email was sent out last night about it, the night before round 1 and the night after selection lol super organisation if true!

Weird rule. Your 4 best B Graders sitting on the pine twiddling their thumbs in the A Grade.
Some new rules to get used to. The 25 metres instead of 50. No hangers or attempted hangers. SFL under 10's sling tackle rules.
Good hit out though. Can't remember the last time our A's and B's won on the same day.

I'm told it took Brighton and Morphies half a season to get use to the umpiring in Amateurs. Less physically and hot on the whistle.

You’d be frustrated today mate but you will see the benefits of the strong rule interpretations in time.

Need to also remember Div 1/1r not on today so you will not get that same standard umpiring every week.

Email went out yesterday morning

Whose idea was this? And for what reasons?

Seems an odd call to me. The strong get stronger.

In my experience the umpires interpretation does relax as the season goes on.

The rules re hangers/attempt essentially mirror the AFL to my understanding.

It's because C/D grades are in our comp, who have been able to field 7 on the bench for a while now. Thus it is extended to all teams competing.

TBH, it's probably not much fun for coaches juggling rotations, but it allowed us give a few more a game this week.

Which we didn't receive, if you going to change the rules you would think you might do it on a Thursday before selection and check to see if all clubs received it.

Seen 4 pushes paid today all with both hands on the ball, then dropped it. One went through the hands bounced of his chest. One clean mark, knees but no hands in the back. Thought that was over 35 rules. The umpy said unrealistic attempt when the bloke got 2 hands on the ball and spilt it.
Besides that impressed with the umpires compared to what we have been getting in recent years. Didn't miss a thing. CUFC had a good crowd considering the travel.

A couple of tightly contested battles down at the Den today. Good hard fair footy and its always a good feeling to come away with 2 wins. Thanks to CU for coming in for a chat and a froth after the game I met some great people involved with that footy club!

I look forward to the return bout on your deck in 10 weeks time!

I saw the sling tackle rule go straight out the window today, let alone wait to relaxing as the season goes on. 5 mnis in, no rule!

Not surprised, very switched on. Was that a welcome gift from the league?

We had someone from the umps out Thursday explaining the rule differences and interpretations compared to the SFL. He did say we would be getting umpires from the middle divs this week. They were very good but the frees for unrealistic attempts to mark were a bit over the top. .... especially when you have Trev Rigney out there! I have been told those frees may have been paid for other incidents in the pack rather than the guy flying the pack though... end of day best umpiring I’ve seen in years.

I’ll be interested to see your thoughts on the umpires in coming weeks when normality sets in. Both Lonsdale and Marion.

Love the call on Trev hahaha.

Can’t believe the old fella is still flying around the way he is, truly is a freak of nature.

Fully expecting the ump standard to drop off we were made fully aware we will be getting the 60-70th best umpire pairings each week. We’re a D7 club we can’t really expect any better our players will make more mistakes than the umps....

I can certainly understand why it would come in for the B grades, but my opinion is that the A grade should be limited to 21 players.

Wish we had 25 players yesterday. Wouldn’t have played with 17 from the 3rd quarter and 16 for most of the last!
