The Big Shrek wrote:I've heard an interesting rumour through some college boys in a computer lab at Uni. Apparently Henry Hardy of State U23 fame is looking at signing with SPOCs. This news went down well at the club until some genius realised that he wasn't playing out of the goodness of his heart. The truth came out and it was discovered he was going to get for $250 a game. This is causing a rift in the club. Many of the financial contributors wished for the money to be spent on equipment, geurnseys etc. They are not happy with this departure from the 'old scholar ethos' and serious questions are being asked about the direction coach Will James is taking the club.
I would be absolutely amazed if this was the case. If Hardy wants to play footy for money that's his choice but the compounding effects on the club of him taking money off SPOC which has prided itself on playing under the age old tradition of collegiate clubs not playing threatens to completely undermine this once very proud club.
As in your post, I could well imagine some of the "old boys" being a little miffed at the prospect of their hard earned being used on individuals to play rather than facilities for the wider club to enjoy. If it is true it would appear to me Astro James has put his own personal success before that of the long term sustainability for the club as we all know it.
If Astro keeps this up he can be sure his tenure as senior coach will be very short lived.
