What team is your biggest Rival.

Postby Shirtfront » Wed Jan 23, 2008 9:59 am

In the early days it was Hope Valley V Modbury. Always had massive games against them through juniors and in the 90's in bout A2 -A3.

Nowadays it would have to be Broadview V Gaza. Always plenty of niggle and a genuine hatred for thier club and supporters. Will be even more on it this year, after the actions of Gaza last year to get our player reported.

TTG & Gepps Cross have formed a pretty fierce rivalry over the last couple of years. They drew the GF in '06 and at half time in the replay Gepps were up by 5 goals but TTG won by 2 goals.

Alot of blokes know of each other from both teams, was always fun to watch! A fair bit of hatred between the two clubs!

Athelstone - full stop... always has been, always will be... we would almost rival Port v Norwood as far as rivals go... ( I reckon anyway)

Others to rate a mention over the years:

Walkerville - just becuase they're neighbours, and going back to SAFA days, more a junior rivalry nowadays...

Portland - for a while in the late 90's early, 00's, in div 3 and 4. some classic finals stouches during that time..

Salisbury West - for all the wrong reasons...

To a lesser extent- Heccies - the poor cousins, and a few players that have swapped between the two clubs over the years...

for TTG, it would definitely be Gepps Cross in Division 1.

The biggest rivalry would be with Modbury though. Had some huge crowds a couple of years ago when we were in Div 2 together. Nearly all of the players know each other, and most have played together at some stage in their career!

Apparently we are playing them in a trial match this year and expecting huge numbers. Should be a great day!!

There was a great rivalry between Portland & PNU for a while there. Always tough games, but also a bit of mutual respect between the 2 clubs aswell.

The local derbies seem to stir up some passion, Rosewater, and now North Haven. The rivalry between Portland and Haven has been gaining momentum the last 2 years.

Very true Felch..

Even when I was at North Haven the Portland rivalry was huge from a playing aspect, not as big as with Port Districts, but not from a playing aspect ( I don't even think they've ever been in the same div), but again, the players that used to swap between the two clubs..

Yeah, we always liked to think that we were the second strongest club on the peninsula (behind Pt Districts), but in recent years Haven have lifted their game, as we have fell back. Last 4 meetings between the clubs are 2 wins a piece, and have seen some cracker games. Its almost like its a race to see who can get to D3 first !!!

Back about 6 or 7 years ago Smosh had good games against Eastern Park. One game was decided by that dam tree at the southern end.

Smosh also had a some very good games against Athelstone this past year in all 4 grades
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

strangely (geographically speaking) for kenilworth it is elizabeth atm..due to the div 6 GF in 06 (3 games decied by 1-2 kicks before GF)..we havent beaten them for 2 years and last game they won with 30 seconds to go

our old history (parklands days) showed a fierce rivalry with glenunga due to the close proximity of the 2 clubs and of late westminster and mitchell park for obvious reasons when they were in our grade

cant beat the mid 80s and scotch v kilburn..the culture clashs

In the 70s and early 80s, it was Rocs for Old Igs, because close proximity schools, blokes had often played against each other from primary school (in some rare cases), all the way through senior school and then into ammos. That was massive for a decade or so, and many great memories of some corker games, but that's non-existent these days since Rocs, to their credit, went north in the mid 80s and haven't been sighted around A3 since.

The other scholar teams / colleges are always big games, and Pembroke has spent as much time as many in recent years in the same grade(s)
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

The intercol (Saints and PAC) was always a huge game and probably still is, both at school and Amatuer League level.

Moorook-Kingston's strongest at the moment is against Cobdogla (it's been there for a while).
Due to their recent success though we haven't managed to beat them for at least three seasons - although in that time we have had one draw, and a final which was drawn at full time.

However, there's also a massive rivalry with East Murray. Moorook beat them in a close GF in their first year in Independents and since then it's been on. They beat Moorook in a GF in 2004 after trailing by 40 points - further cementing the rivalry.

Yeah ANZAC Day game v Wingfield was unreal. Not so much the fighting that was unreal it was the competitiveness of both teams.

Don't have a major team rival but my personal rival would by catman.

Always scratching through my trash and climbing my fly screen door.

Try hard.

Salsbury Nth still haven't won a game on our oval. Two years ago we played them in a trial and it was a draw.

This is an easy one...FC is right...Athelstone v Payneham NU...really look forward to those games...big crowds...fierce rivalry...and a great contest on the park irrespective of the positions on the ladder.

A couple of years back, PNU won only one game all year, and yes, it was against the Raggies. That says something about getting up for a big game. I was devastated.

Morphett Vale v Reynella is the biggest ive seen, genuine arch-rivals. Think CLG is the biggest for Kenilworth Zedman. We have always gone up a cog when ever we play them since the divorce. Cant recall CLG beating us though (Im not being arrogant,I honestly can't)
