Alot of rumour & inuendo around the traps with ins & outs at certain clubs, give us your prediction for the flag & what you know of recruits.
With not much coming from inside the Henley Football Clubs walls this year, i decided to make a trip down there & have a brow'z at training myself.
Their a side flying under the radar alright, very good numbers 60 plus.
I can see Henley having strong depth in 08, with that it will be interesting to see the B grade line up as their will be alot of past regular A graders finding themselves in the magoo's this year with all the high profile Eagles recruits onboard, making their B grade very strong.
There was alot of other new faces i didn't recognise making up the numbers which is a good sign for Henley.
Can't see any other club in the comp having the same numbers as them, the sign's a worry for those clubs, with that i predict Henley to take out the flag in A1 - 2008.

I wonder just how far over the salary cap the Sharks might be. Getting players such as they have doesn't happen because they like you, it normally comes at a substantial cost.

Sorry to be synical but it does make you wonder, don't you think?

They have the last 3 years zedman your dead right.
Will make things very interesting this year Goodwood v Henley.
Back when Henley won their last div2 flag theit footy opporations fella quoted "Henley would of won the div1 flag if they were in it". Thats easy to say than do!
But fair dinkum their side looks fit, strong & keen in 08 & i think they'll be very hard to beat.

Cant see Henley breaking the salary cap Mercy, but agree with you that they are definately the Premiership favourites in A1. Pretty hard to see anyone beating them to be honest. Good Coach, Great captain and a swag of ex Eagles and other A1 players from other club will make it nearly impossible to topple them.

Only problem might be is if the 8 or so guys who were all used to getting a Senior Game over the years and all the new recruits who are expecting to be first choice players are all lining up to kick the dew off the ground in the Magoos, due to the new recruits. Have seen it happen before and can cause a harmony issue, but Hall is an experienced man and the players might be just happy to play at a club that is winning everything. You will find a handful not happy, but most will be accepting that 33 or so A Grade players, just dont go into 21. - Henley the A1 Flag favourites and hard to see them even losing a game to be honest.

He hasn't coached before so thats yet to be seen.
No doubt if things don't go the way of big Place this year Hall will be told, via text message of his inability to coach!

Got to start somewhere Mercy and if I was starting out in the Coaching caper, probably could not get a better club to coach with good people and most importantly they have an outstanding playing group. Sometimes even if the novice coach is not great with whats going on the good players he has on the field, will make up for him being the novice coach.

Guess you have to start somewhere and I guess that with a string of league footballers and key players from other Clubs at your disposal, it makes life a hell of a lot easier than most new coaches get it, so I would not mind being the Coach of this group of players and they deserve the Premiership Favourite tag. Honestly cant see anyone beating Henley this year in the A1 or A1 Reserves. Whoever beats them will need a big slice of luck or a good dose of Amateur League Umpires, to upset their apple cart. Remember a few years ago, we saw Gaza beaten by an umpire, who wanted to BE the show and not just be part of the show. Thank god he is not the apple in everyones eyes since that day he stuffed up a Grand Final.

Quality confident Pt District can make a impact in there first year back into the " big time " and claim ANOTHER premiership . NB : Expect a big name Pt Adelaide recent retiree to sign on the dotted line soon .

Modbury my tip for Div 2 .

Have heard Kilburn are already talking premierships at sudanese park so they get my tip for Div 3 . Maybe a few wins will bring back the KDF misfits to the hill.

I spoke to one of Pt Districts coaching staff last week and he was not so confident on their chances this year. I know Roger is furious at losing a handful of blokes to North Haven, and i know training attendances were pretty ordinary early on.

Not the sort of things you want to hear when taking the step up to D1.

Amateur Footy, your comments about Henley seem to have been said with a touch of 'a former assitant coach' bias.

Are we to assume that you were at Henley a few years ago as #2 man.

You are a man of many talents AF, cricket coach, footy coach and journalist, now that's special!

Yes you are right Rupert for a change. I was assistant to Hodges for a 2 season period and no there is no bias in my
statement regarding Henley and my thoughts of them being the deserved Premiership favourites. Someone has to
establish that mantle of becoming the top dog in the competiton, and think that it may be Henley' time. Actually told
many of their board members before leaving that Henley were on the verge of a Football Dynasty, if managed correctly
some 18 months ago, so have held that thought for a while actually.

Dont know what being an Assistant Football Coach, Working for Cricket Australia or being a journalist has to do with anything to be honest Rupert. One can give an opinion without bias, purely based on belief of a situation.

The fact is - I cant see anyone getting close to Henley this year - simple even for you. There depth in the B Grade, will cover any injury or form loss that no other club in the competition will get close to managing except maybe Gaza. Sorry for not printing or writing, what you wish to hear or state that your club will win the Premiership. Ive stated who I am, why not do the same and we can easily debate the situation logically. I also hope Seaton have a tremendous year and you thought I would have a degree of bias there, but at the moment cant see them getting into Finals contention - once again Rupert laddy, just an opinion piece. State who you are and where you are from and it becomes much easier to discuss?????

AF, I thought you would have a bit thicker skin than that! To be a good journalist, they say you must be able to hide your feelings and not disclose any hidden aspirations. You may be right with Henley, that's to be confirmed in the next few months.
Of course you are allowed an opinion, that's the good thing about being an Aussie.
Not sure I mentioned Cricket Australia (did you really work for them?) Was that before or after your coaching stints at Pt Adel., Kilburn, Gepps Cross?

Disclose who I am, not today laddie, I hope your venture into the SAAFL works for you, I doubt they would classify you as a 'favourite son' considering you've done your fair share of talking them down!
