Hey just thought I would ask how the heat has affected everyones preseason?? Eastern Parks long awaited trial game with Renmark has been cancelled this weekend and figured other clubs might be doing the same.....

Also what is the Amatuer Leagues heat policy if this sort of thing continues to the start of the season???

Ressies games start earlier to allow for the extra drink breaks halfway though each quarter.

A's start at normal time with the same stoppage for drinks break halfway through each quarter (which is really a pain in the bum)

I believe now though, they have introduced a cancellation policy if it's going to be over 38c on the satruday. ie; like this Saturday.. and games are then re-scheduled)

That's where clubs with decent lights are going to possibly make some money, but who wants to give away a home game though?

You can look forward to coming down to our ground in a few weeks then mate - it is looking a treat !!! One of the advantages of having a district cricket side sharing our facilities !

would think would be one of the best ovals going around at the minute
only problem maybe how hard the wicket area will be!

True, but give us a few weeks and we will have chopped that up !

There is actually a leaky sprinkler on one part of the oval - clubrooms end, scoreboard-side flank. There was a fairly large puddle present last night !!!

West Croydon had trial organised with Brahma Lodge for Sat 1pm, but have changed it to 6pm, so will only have enough light for 4 20 min qtrs, but should be good.

Not a pain in the bum for me (the break is good from a trainers perspective, at least I know everyone is getting a drink) Water runners should be on the ground at all times when its hot anyway so that no-one should be missing out on water at anytime.

but lets face it, who likes a game to be disrupted for any reason?

A team that is 5 points behind with the ball at their CHF and a good chance of hitting the front probably isnt going to be real happy when the siren goes and play has to come to a halt.. that's what I meant by the pain in the bum..

I cant agree FC. As i am from a Div6 club where getting volunteers to do anything is a challenge let alone finding water runners to do the job for a whole game. Surely player safety would come before a result of a game in 35plus conditions. If i were a coach and one of my players collapsed because of heatstress and we decided not to have heatbreaks i would feel pretty responsible and lousy and no doubt have to answer a few questions.

Three or four years ago, our first round was at St Pauls in 40 degree heat. Because of the stoppages halfway through each quarter, which were poorly regulated, and the extra time added at normal breaks, all we ended up doing was being out in the sun for another 45 minutes than we'd normally have been.

Not saying they aren't a good idea, just make them quick.

Yep need to be organised properly.

I appreciate your difference in opinion.

However finding volunteers at any level is difficult Hawkseye, not just in the lower grades

Football is a winter sport and as such should not be played in over 35c conditions anyway. Hence the cancellation policy..

In fact I was having a go at some wally on another thread who suggested that everyone should suck it in and play in ridiculous heat. Being a trainer for almost 15 years, I know that the health of the player comes first. Unfortunately, we are not always listened to.

These breaks are only supposed to be 2 mins anyway with no coaching allowed.. never happens that way.

Fair enough. I dont think i have the patience to be a trainer tough gig i reckon.
