What would you do as coach?

If your coaching a club thats losing players quicker than your gaining them & you have a player that leaves & signs for big $$$ at another club but in the country, would you as coach allow that player to train with you locally so it excuses him from travelling??
These players can't have the cake & eat it to.

Nope sorry mate. Find yourself another club to train with. If your ditching us for bigger dollars and you know we are already stuggling for numbers, dont expect any favours. May leave some bad blood if he ever wanted to return, but if he is a mercinary as it seems, he obviously didnt have much passion for the club.

All fair and well if a bloke is good enough to be paid and deserving of it. The last thing you want though are blokes that care more about the benjamins than attaching themselves to the club and its people.

What do the playing group think of the idea of him training there after leaving? Their opinion would have a bit do with it if I was coach...

Well I think you already know the answer to that one. Secondly the player is getting money for playing in the country, so I would expect that player to attend training at the club where he is playing..Thats why he is getting paid!!!

Too many country clubs are to soft with over paid, over rated players trying to sell themselves and dont want to commit to training etc.

Gees, I'd have a stab at which fella it is, but it could be any one of 15 ramblers lads...

I hear a few loyal ones are gutted and staying put. Good on em'.

We've had country boys train with us in the past and there has always been an agreement between the 2 clubs to compensate for tape they use etc...

Are they boys that were originaly from your club and left to chase $$$$. If so I dont agree with that, but if they are just country boys who are down studying or working i reckon thats alright.

its a very fine line the A grade coach might not want them training with the A grade squad for team balance and so forth and the players playing country footy are well above B grade standard so its a tough 1 .

Tell ya story walkin pal! If you have left a club for money elsewhere, surely you wouldn't expect to keep training with them

send them out to park 10 to the other players who train locally and play in the country.

at uni we let players train who play country provided they're students but they don't train with the a grade

This is a interesting topic you raise NM , we have all seen it .

As a former coach myself i would welcome the player to train with the group as numbers are down and in hope that he will realise its not all about the money and decide to come back to the club .

Yes my first instinct would be to flick him but its not AFL and there isn't the club loyalty these days unfortunately. Thats the harsh reality .

If he is going to play with a country club he played with before he played with you I can't see no reason to not let him train. Also he may help your club if there are some players at the country club who want to play down in the big smoke one day he may steer them your way

Diplomacy can go a long way. As has been pointed out, he may want to return next year and would feel comfortable doing so, plus he could bring players with him.

On the other hand, with a lack of ostracism, other players from your club may consider the mercenary route.

Tough call.

If it was one of my mates I'd belt the crap out of him and lambast him for the rest of his life

Diplomacy can go as far as loyalty. Would you want him to come back knowing that he bailed for money - is that roel model material? Would you always feel on the back foot continually trying to please him, continually trying to lure him back? How does that place the rest of your 'team's' (of which he is not a part of) feelings.
