Don't think there is 17s this year mate, not run by the SAAFL anyway. Think a junior league or two may be trying to implement one. Under 18 games still on Sundays at 3pm.
The competition wasn't too bad last year as far as the 'other reason's. I remember Smithfield and North Haven having a fair touch-up a couple of years ago though...

Those kids that would struggle in seniors (late developers/low skilled footballers) need somewhere to play and the under 18's comp is a far better option for them than C grade in most cases. Plenty of players have been lost to footy because the transition to seniors is too difficult for them, this gives footy a chance of not losing them as players. Great idea, IMO.

I played in Div 3 as a 15 year old, so I agree that it can be done, but that's the minority. If the kids are really serious about their footy they'd be playing at league clubs in the underage system, but what about the kids who maybe aren't the most naturally gifted, who just wanna go have a run each weekend with their mates from school? Why should they be denied the chance to have a game of footy on a Sunday arvo? We have a gap between under 15s and 18s at our club, and there's no way some of those kids coming out of the Under 15s would be able to play senior footy.Bold Strategy wrote:mypaddock wrote:personally think u/18 footy is a waste of time- if these kids arent ready to play senior local footy yet they never will be, i can understand kids playing u17-u19s at sanfl level cause the quality is a lot higher but dont see any benefit to a kids development here.
