Not sure how many guys on here are involved with the Under 18 competitions, but here's the teams for the north division if anyone is interested:
Athelstone
Eastern Park
Golden Grove
Greenacres
Modbury
Salisbury
Salisbury North
Salisbury West
Smithfield
Tea Tree Gully
Have heard Gepps Cross will be in the other division to even the numbers up, along with the likes of Seaton, Lockleys and others down along the western and inner-southern suburbs.

is there an u17 league this yr? know that in the past few years there has been divisions with about 5 teams! but seems to be gd numbers this yr. hopefully no teams drop out. games still on sundays this yr?
wonder how long it is untill we here a few stories about fights and all that as is usually the case with U18s. theres always a minority that play for other reasons...

Don't think there is 17s this year mate, not run by the SAAFL anyway. Think a junior league or two may be trying to implement one. Under 18 games still on Sundays at 3pm.
The competition wasn't too bad last year as far as the 'other reason's. I remember Smithfield and North Haven having a fair touch-up a couple of years ago though...

yeh the smithfield game is the one that sticks to memory. never heard the full story from a reliable source. even got told that the ump was in a coma

never seen an u18 match but going thru the tribunal list, u18s players seemed to make a regular appearance. when i was at u17 association 2yrs ago, a player told me that a team forfeited against them during the week because the coach feared for the safety of his players. lets hope the comp is clean this yr.

personally think u/18 footy is a waste of time- if these kids arent ready to play senior local footy yet they never will be, i can understand kids playing u17-u19s at sanfl level cause the quality is a lot higher but dont see any benefit to a kids development here.

Most kids that are good enough to play seniors do just that, as well as the 18's.
Those kids that would struggle in seniors (late developers/low skilled footballers) need somewhere to play and the under 18's comp is a far better option for them than C grade in most cases. Plenty of players have been lost to footy because the transition to seniors is too difficult for them, this gives footy a chance of not losing them as players. Great idea, IMO.

Agreed mate. We've got a few in that category, and some kids that age still have the perception of C Grade as a 'thugs' competition and so aren't confident enough to play in it yet. Any comp that keeps people playing football is a positive, especially that age when there's so many other things to discover, football can sometimes get left behind.
Teams for the Under 18 'Blue' division: (Note, the north-eastern comp is the 'Yellow' division)
Broadview
Flinders Park
Gepps Cross
Henley
Lockleys
North Haven
Port District
Seaton Ramblers
Woodville South
Plus the bye, as there's only 9 teams. Fixtures are up on iScore.

I guess the only way we, at Gepps Cross, were going to keep a very talented group of 2007 Under 16's together and prepare them for future senior action was to field them in the SAAFL Under 18's, probably for 2 seasons. Had a good hitout against Golden Grove 18's last week and either won or lost by three points.

agree with MP there, by 18 you shuold b playing snr,ive seen plenty of 65k-75kg playing very gd footy in snr's, it all mental, heard about 15 year olds playing div 3 ...had a 14 yr old who played in B's trial match last week and dominated

I played in Div 3 as a 15 year old, so I agree that it can be done, but that's the minority. If the kids are really serious about their footy they'd be playing at league clubs in the underage system, but what about the kids who maybe aren't the most naturally gifted, who just wanna go have a run each weekend with their mates from school? Why should they be denied the chance to have a game of footy on a Sunday arvo? We have a gap between under 15s and 18s at our club, and there's no way some of those kids coming out of the Under 15s would be able to play senior footy.

cant expect every kid to be playin snrs at age 17 if they arent that serious and not wanting to play against bigger bodies. also could mean that you would have a b-grade team with half the players full of jnrs as most clubs try not to play young players in Cs. play against a club without jnrs and then its almost u18s v b grade.
hav spoken to a fair few jnrs of heccies who have loved playing for hfc but had to move to a dif club as we only go up to u16s this yr. i know i chose u17s instead of snrs because i wanted to play 1 more yr with my mates i played with for the past few seasons and that i have 20 yrs of snrs footy left

my twin played As that season and i got called soft and that by a few ppl for not playing snrs...

Lockleys are a chance if they make the finals, they showed that last year. Amazing effort or Lots of Ring-ins ?

As luck would have it, there is a U18's blue game on at Gepps and a U18's yellow game on at Greenacres, so I can go to both games next week!.
I better get some great grabs out of your mob then Joompin..
