One Division V Another

Postby footballfollower » Fri Apr 04, 2008 11:20 am

As an example how do you think it would go if
A side was picked from the best in A3 to play a side picked from the best in A2
Seeeing there are no State Games ( except U23 ) could this be a way of having some games where by
players in divisions could achieve a higher honour ?????
Just a thought

Even just having a "team of the year" named in each division would be a great idea. Even if they didn't get to play one another. We're not all div 1 footballers...

I like that idea. If A3 Team of the Year was to play the A2 Team of the Year, surely A2 should win pretty comfortably. Same for other contestsyou could come up. But the team of the year for each division gives the guys in the lower grades some recognition that is usually only reserved for A1, I like it.

Only problem would be trying to decide on selectors for each division?

You could get the 10 coaches to vote 3,2,1 on the opposition after each game (bit late now) and tally the votes at the end of the season...? Highest 22 vote getters are named in the team of the year. Would probably be a better indication of who should win the medal too...?

Or each coach ranks 22 players from 22-1 excluding their own club at the end of the year. 22 being the highest point scorer (22points,21,20,19,etc..) and tally up the votes and name your team of the year from that...?

I wouldnt mind the coaches doing it, preferably after each game as I don't know if trying to rank 22 players when the season is over would be very accurate. Other problem is you could get 15-20 midfielders in that bunch of 22.

Your 1st suggestion would be the go i reckon. As most coaches would pencil in oppositions guns for their next encounter.

What if they have to rank 22 players but it is limited to - 2 ruckmen, 6 backmen, 6 forwards and 8 onballers?? Could that work?

Could also be an idea to sort out the old conundrum of what standard country comps are. Perhaps the winner of their zone comps or association matches could play a div 2 or 3 team of the year. I'd like to see the Hills and Southern leagues beaten to shut them up about how good they are.
