Sorry, couldn't find the old thread. Has it been deleted?
Great write ups in the budget the last couple of weeks. Actually reads as if someone watched our game and paid attention to it. I was thinking the div 3 writer was Pag but the dirty ranga was too pissed to notice what happened on Saturday so I'm looking at other suspects.
Seriously though congratulations to whoever wrote them, he(or she) showed clever perception and insight.

I'm over people on this site pumping up each others tyres over how good the 'alternate' or new budget is. Sure, a huge amount of work goes into it and it seems well organised with more info on the lower grades - but the match reports/previews aren't anything to write home about. They say the same thing every week, just like the sportsbeat does, and often have obvious errors.
The player 'bank' is what really riles me though. It cant be 'right' to keep a list of players who are selling themselves to better offers in the 'amateur' league. How can Luke Hosie set up such a thing and have exclusive access to it? Players on this list should be sacked by their clubs on principle.

Ahhhhhh dont read it then.....
Ten times better then the sports beat. Whats wrong with recognising the hard work of the people that get it sorted. no I am not involved and no I dont know who is.....!!!!!!!!!!
doesn't at all write the same stuff week in week out. Regularly changes whats written dependant on how teams and individuals are travelling....wat are you on about.....

On1leg, read the write up this week. Maybe you only notice if you play in the game they are talking about but it is far better.
Agree with you about the player bank and have mentioned it before. Hosie has set himself up nicely to ingratiate himself with his buddies by having a list of players ready to change clubs.

On1leg i agree about the player bank, i would like to see if Luke doesnt use it for his personal gain, but ffs mate at least someone else has had the forsight to expand exposure of the Amateur league. What is wrong with that? Sports beat is slipping in its coverage of our league and someone has stepped in and taken over. Get over it and dont read it!

Haha, thanks for your vote of confidence mate, but you're right, I was too pissed to care about anything after our Bs got done.
I didn't actually read it last week til I got given a program put together by Flinders Park people at the game (which was a pretty good idea), which included the write-up from the Budget which I then got to read before I started drinking, wasn't too bad.

If it wasn't him it could of been someone else coming up with the idea.
You a little upset you didn't come up with the idea yourself? why don't you ask him ( on1Leg ) he might get you involved & you could become a player manager & save all those players your worried about losing from your club.
Luke's not involved with any club so i believe he'll give everyone an even playing field.

A couple of years back, Stephen Stretch (ex Melb) had a similar thing on the go. I have to tell you that from personal experience, the only players he had on his were NFG, mainly overpaid country players trying to command the same money in the city. Spoke to a couple, geez what an experience that was.Cost you a $100.00 to get a phone number.

I would say CC you'd only be charged if the deal is done surely? I'm not 100% certain as i don't know alot about player bank.

NM, it cost us $100.00 just to get a number, if a deal is done then the player pays a fee to Stretch. We spoke to some dumb arse ruckman who was playing in the RFL at Browns Well, lived in the city and was stoned off his melon when we interviewed him. A great investment in learning what not to get involved in.

I believe in this version of the player bank most people are helped out for free, but when the big boys come out to play Hosie takes a commission.

I’m all for promoting the SAAFL and it’s great to see people doing this. People volunteering their time is what the SAAFL is all about and it’s these people who are let down by those who engage in the player bank. The player bank sets clubs up for failure – this can’t be promoting the league. Just ask clubs like Kilburn, Broadview, Pooraka and Glandore who thought they were recruiting the right type of players, only to find when some of the money dried up, the players left in droves. This bank is just supporting mercenary players who inevitably think they’re worth more than they are and play for personal gain – not their club(s). Only recently Salisbury North decided to bite the bullet and stop paying certain players the big dollars, those players left, they’re playing local lads, and now they’re doing well.

I dont disagree with that but the budget is still a great read and very worthwhile.

Regardless of player bank & everyones thoughts, the budget is the best thing for Amateur League. Great read, keep up the good work Hosie!

I think the Sportsbeat's reviews are good too, when they get to a game.
The problem with the Sportsbeat is that two people have too much ground to cover. Time for the SAAFL to work together with Hosie. A budget run in conjunction with the Grass Roots etc. would be mutually benificial as well as benificial to those who follow the amateurs. It would almost rival the SANFL media coverage.

I'm in agreeance with you Shrek in terms of the Sportsbeat, i enjoy reding it & knowing a bit about Amateurs you tend to pick the brains out of the
non-brains trust thats writing about our great game while not attending the game there writing about.
Sorry maybe thats a bit harsh!
