saw a similar topic in the country side of things and thought it was very intersting to see how clubs had went the year after playing in a GF, i also wouldn't mind seeing how clubs went after being relegated...
would be interesting to see and the reasons why...
i've found these...
Golden Grove up in 07 and 08
Seaton up in 07, down in 08
SMOSH up in 07, down in 08
Salisbury up in 07, down in 08
Brahma Lodge down in 07 and 08
any others?
and some close calls...
CLG almost jumped from Div6 to Div5 after being promoted the year before (they probably should've after finishing top)
PAOC who were relegated in 07 should've jumped up again after finishing top but bowed out and missed the GF
in the same Div CBCOC were relegated in 07 and stayed in Div 4 by 1 game
Kilburn, relegated in 07, were fancied to move back into Div 2 (so i'm told) but didn't
Ingle Farm is another who after being relegated in 07 almost dropped again but stayed in their Div by 1 game
thoughts anyone...?

i would like to know why
obviously golden grove cause they recruited well and have a good young group.
but what about smosh and salisbury??
did they loose heaps of players, did they not recruit or are they not good enough for the next divison???
seaton lost a few players and there coach, IMO thats y they struggled!!
what are the chances of Golden Grove going up 3 divs in 3 years???
and who do people think will come straight back down next season??

I think these three illustrate the difference in standard between Divs 4/3/2/1...
Golden Grove have all the right ingredients and could conceivably go up again next year...

Not a good season for newly promoted clubs whose club name starts with "S". Next time pag, change the club name and you'll be right.

I don't think it is mate, not as much as the higher Divs anyway. Golden Grove could go straight through without any problem, I know we went from Div 6-Div 3 a few years back, Para Hills went straight from Div 5-Div 3, Mitcham almost did, even Fitzroy last year after starting slowly won 8 out of their last 10 or something when they got themselves right.
So to answer your question, there isn't a lot of difference I wouldn't think.

GG could do well again in 09. The thing with a young squad is watching them grow into their bodies and mature and majority of the squad have certainly done that over the last 2 years. They still have no peaked in terms of physical strength but that is definitly coming. 09 will be an exciting year. With a few guys coming back, possibly including an association medallist they will again be good. Keeping your squad togetheris the main ingredient of back-to-back promtions I'd think...

I agree, not a lot of difference for the top couple of teams in D5. I think the the mid and lower placed sides would get easily beaten by all the D4 teams. We played Blackfriars this year in a trial, and beat them by 100 points. I know trials are not always a true indication, and i know we did win the flag, but we were not the dominant team in D4. The top 5-6 in D4 were all pretty even, and you even had second-bottom Unley pushing and even beating some if the top sides. Im sure GG and Greenies would have really pushed for a finals spot if they were in D4 this year, but not so sure on the others.

SMOSH got hit by injuries to there experienced players.... lost goals scoring options and alot of midfielders so made it hard for them to score winning amounts. they were competative in the first half of the year then struggled massively after that

was there to many injuries and people unavailable or is there depth not that good??
I thought smosh had a very strong B grade
some of those blokes could have come up and filled the gap surely??

Then they would've missed out on playing finals, pfft

That's a hard one to ask at the moment mate, with 1/4 of those clubs still not knowing what division they're playing in yet...

The lodge has attracted a past president back to the club and obtained new sponsors for next season already. They are also working on forming a new committee, they will also be aggressively recruiting quality players to the club and expect to hold onto 90% of current players – there always be some retirements.
I expect a new Brahma Lodge next year as the people involved wont accept anything but success.

the 5-6 players they were paying to drive from the deep south to play, decided the travel was to much and didnt return in 2007 imo..thats how we all saw it
