There was a knockout tournament when i was in Yr 12 in 2005 but that was the only time i got to represent my school besides the Scott Hodges Cup at Alberton in Years 8 and 9...We won both 8/9s and 10/11/12s in 2001...i dont know if there were more comps because apparently the students before us had a rep...hence we were sternly warned before the knockout series... :D

I doubt there is a proper high school competition. If there is not many compete in it.

See I reckon it wont. For starters it's 1 less team each SANFL club has to fund for. There will be more quality players going back to club level and more umpires going back to grass roots. The talent has merged making it more quality rather than quantity. I reckon playing club is better than playing for school anyway.

But which High Schools in SA have teams that play each week?? Sweet F.A. I know in the state open knockout tournament when I was in year 12 we finished 3rd and lost the prelim by 3 goals to the eventual state champions and we only trained at lunch time twice and we all played at either A grade club level or SANFL. I have no doubt in my mind if we trained together as we did at club level we would have waltzed in the state title.

Thats a fair arguement LM
I have alot of mates who went to henley and I went to st Michaels,
we always have the arguement of what school is better!
we say we are cause when I was at school we made it further in the comp
they say they would have done better if they played every saturday like we did.
all of us played sunday for an amatuer club, so it is hard to tell!

and jimmy
I only seen St Michaels play one public school
that was 2006 when we played against brighton on a wednesday
we won but could have been a different story if sellar and gibbs were allowed to play by glenelg!!

the other thing with poaching players, ti goes both ways in my experiences!
teams such as PAC, St peters, SHOC offer free boarding and scholarships to get players to there school
while some colleges loose players to public schools
not cause they want to play for the school, but they want to play Sanfl, and with many schools having the rule
school comes before club, unless u r playing league, they leave so they can play reserves or something like that
the same happens in school cricket!!!

Nah, I didn't attend, just wondering if I might have played against ya in high school, but I finished in 2000. I remember losing to your lads by under goal, my bloke takes a mark on the siren and I moon him as he lines up, he shanks the hell out of it, but it still wobbled just over everyone's heads for a goal!!!

Only in recent years Pag, since they have been getting half their players from Sacred Heart. They have gone to SFL now to be reaquainted with what they used to be.

Ahh, the old chest nut again

In any standard of footy, I dont think too many soft teams win premierships. Have a look at the SAAFL "most senior premierships" list. If you accept Uni as a quasi "soft college side", then 4 of the top 10 clubs are college sides, meaning we are over represented on a pro rata basis of "hard district sides" v soft college sides.

I'll happily be called soft, if hardness is defined by cheap shots and dirty stuff behind play. Hardness is putting your head over it, backing into a pack, body on the line stuff. There are sheep dogs in every team, thats the beauty of our sport. Someone gets in a wins it a dishes it out to a runner.
Next topic........let me guess........."are all college teams full of fags"?

This crops up a fair bit, but the thing you need to understand is that college sides cop this each week. They are used to it. In many cases they put there head down go win the ball and play football. They cop the cheap ones and thugish acts behind play and just keep playing. They may appear soft but they probabbly win more of the hard ball than some of the "harder" sides.

But hey by all means the next time you play a college side go the body all day and see what happens. I bet they end up running all over you.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards
