SAAFL U/17's & U/19's

Postby Roaring Lion! » Fri Oct 24, 2008 2:51 pm

Hello, just a quick question to anyone out there as not sure what is happening now that SANFL has gone to an U/18's competition but there has been talk of SAAFL going to U/17's & U/19's competitions for season '09?
If so does anyone know which day that this will be played on Saturday or Sunday as the club i am involved with is very keen for this to happen & go ahead which i will have to opportunity to coach but am hoping it will stay on Sunday's as most of the boys also play school footy on Saturday's & i also play on Saturday's which prefer not to be effected if possible, any help & answers to this question will be much appreciated, Thanks!
IT'S US AGAINST THEM!!!

This is the apparent plan RL, 19's on Saturdays before the Ressies and 17's on Sunday.

There will be a delegates meeting straight after the AGM on December 1. I can't imagine there are too many clubs that are keen on it and would say most would rally strongly against it.

That's just the feeling from the clubs I've spoken to anyway...

I think it's absolutely ridiculous, if something isn't broken, it doesn't need fixing.

Speaking to a few delegates at the NEMJFA end of year heels up I think we may have 10 or so clubs interested in the 17's Sunday comp, Pearcy would be the guru on that.
BTW, congrats to Pearcy on his life membership of NEMJFA, hard working fella that he is & always available to give out his time & experience to help our club & the association when it is needed. Onya matey.

The comp either needs 17s or 18s, none of this Under 19s crap. Aparantly it was set-up so the college kids could stay together when they finish school, and the old scholars sides have some sort of 'junior set-up'. Bullshit, once you finish school, you're in the real world, and you play with the boys.

Our club is nominating for 17s. Don't know how many non-college teams will nominate for the 19s. Could just be an older First XVIII league.

And playing the 19s before the 2s on a Saturday is stupid, what happened to the triple-headers between clubs (As, Bs, Cs) that was trying to be pushed? These make for an excellent atmosphere at games when all three senior grades play together.

just let the SAAFL run the U/18's comp, i dont know why punk rooster you would want them to run the other junior grades. the 4 Junior District League's (Metro West, Metro South, North East and Central Districts) run them very well. I know that the SAAFL would like to get there hands in there because they are greedy and need the extra money for some junior funding from the SANFL.

ok, my mistake.
What I meant was the format- not who runs it.

Does anybody agree 19's is a complete waste of time, I mean by the time a local league player is 18 they should be playing senior footy. I can understand it at SANFL level as it is more a development thing, but at SAAFL level if you can kick and catch realistically you should be playing senior footy between the ages of 16 and 18.

yes, the SAAFL have taken a backward step here.
U18's is the go, as I'm sure permits are available for those not up to open age football.

Looks like you'd better be doing a bit of heavy recruiting there Plonky, we have neither next year, so there's 25 potential senior grade players from the 17's down the shit shute.
Stick to what you know chucklehead.

At 18 or 19 years of age, if you are any good you would be playing B grade looking to push for A grade. Surely this is obvious to the clowns at SAAFL House. Why have this 19's team??? Whats wrong with clubs having a young B grade and possibly C grade if you have enough numbers. 3 games on a Sat just puts more pressure on volunteers, umpires and club staff that is not needed.

An 18s side? How is this gonna happen if there's no Under 18 comp?

Its embarrassing to the League at present not knowing whether there will be an U/17-U/18s or U/19s next year.

I'm not sure what goes through the mind of people like Shadiac & Co, do they think they'll make this decision around Feb-March 09 & give our clubs no time what so ever to get teams together & coaches onboard? Its not easy at the best of times finding coaches for any grade.

For all you BOZO"S at Amateur House professionalism & communication is an important factor in the running of our competition, you blokes are slowly ruining what we know could be a great Amateur Comp, i can see the Southern League overtaking the Amateur League very quickly as the decision making of our powers above is nothing short of disgraceful.

Punk Roosters quote having even grades from 6 to 18s is a great idea, now how hard is that Shadiac?
If you can't make simple decisions like that then you should get the hell out of there & give the job to someone that cares more for the League & clubs rather than himself.

Wow! Now them's fighting words NM. Why don't you say what you think!!!!!!!!

Must say I'm not too sure how this 'SANFL rejected' junior comp is going to give club's enough time to be structured properly, here's hoping the fearless leader has got over the Irish jetlag enough to have all of these things worked out for the clubs that may be involved.
Now that is just plain dumb, don't you think?
