What is it with div 4?

This is obviously just a huge case of coincidence.. but it's funny how a lot of big name players/coaches that have come onto the scene over the past few years have slotted themselves into div 4..

Is it purely money, or to make themselves look good by winning an easy cup or two?

EG:

Garry McIntosh - Came to PNU after being dumped from Norwood and won back to back flags with not much recruiting... but has struggled for any success since being in div 2..

Eddie Hocking - Coached Salisbury to a flag but now finds themselves teetering to the lower div again.

Fabian Francis - Was employed mainly to tidy up the place, gave them a flag (but hey, so did the league by leaving them in div 4). Left the place in worse condition that it started off..

Josh Coulter - hey, he just wants to play with his mates... good on him!

AND now...

Mark Rucciuto - will don the maroon (isn't that just a different shade of purple?) and white as part of a sponsorship deal

Darren Jarman - From out of nowhere, what can he do with a struggling dolphins side?

and maybe - Nathan Bassett taking on the reigns at Lutheran but has a lot of mates there, not sure how much money would be an issue there..

thoughts?

You also had J. Wareing go to north haven last year from one div 4 club to another

will he stay there or move up into div 3 where he should be???

i said big name players, not big head players

Can we keep this on topic please, just because it has div 4 in the thread, doesn't give you rights to deface it with dribble :?

Division 4 is probably the middle-most division, it is a pretty decent standard of footy and if you have a successful couple of years, you could end up in div. 2.

Div. 5 is probably a bit low to attract big name coaches, div's 1 to 3 are usually more consolidated clubs/ coaches/ players. I suppose it is a good stepping stone for prospective coaches to try their luck and clubs around this grade would jump at the opportunity in an attempt to attract a few players.

I would think that the majority of those people would have some link to the club they are at, probably links that the onlooker wouldn't be aware of.

the white colour in the jumper. Div 4 is the middle comp where you can start your coaching career and is good way to either get the club up for a flag or at least get them competitive again.

I think it is because there is a connection with the club not necessarily just with any players but it could be through an official at the club, a supporter or a family member associated with the club.

Whatever it is it usually benefits the club in a lot of ways on and off the field, as well as the SAAFL.

I dont really know what it is about div4 but if half the stories are true about who's playing this year we picked a tough year to come into this div ..sounds like there will be bucket loads of talent on display in 09 :(
