Very sad Zed. It makes you wonder what our government and communities do to help these people settle in after many of them come here from tragic backgrounds.

Kenilworth should be congratulated for helping these boys out.

TBS: its the least we can do to help these boys out..they all have horror stories to relate..things we wouldnt make a hardened mercenary go through..football and sport is a great release for these boys..yes they are struggling to fit in..who wouldnt if the roles were reversed..now we have got 20 teammates of daniel and gurang we have to tell..also the other sudanese boys at the club will need counselling ..they are really great kids who are naturals as i have said before..sadly their countries violence, and lack of respect for life itself, has followed them here

Hopefully this incident won't make it more difficult for the club to help these guys. The thread about this in the general discussion board shows some of the prejudice you're up against.

Really does bring tears to your eyes... especially when you have children around the same age :(

My thoughts are with his family, friends and the football club.

I think a lot of people tend to de-humanise Sudanese refugees. They don't speak to them and all they see is groups of kids looking 'menacing'. De-humanising them makes it easier for people not to feel a sense of obligation to find out about their stories and help them out.

This thread is important because it shows that these kids are just like any others. They play footy and go to school just like thousands of other kids. Although it shouldn't be necessary, knowing this should help us all relate to, and empathise with them. Hopefully, this can dispell some all too common perceptions of these Sudanese lads just being dark, dangerous figures hanging around the streets.

zed, may want to change your tagline when talking about this one. i know its nothing deliberate.

just shows that anger crosses all paths unfortunately, hope that incident is not used to justify action and animosity against the sudanese or any other refugee or immigrant group.

i dont know how to change it but it is what i am feeling..we all wish the fallen to rest in peace..and at 14 years of age he had hardly lived yet

i will look at the thread in "general" but i can imagine what it says now..same things that were said in the 60's with italians and greeks, same as the vietnamese/chinese in the 80's 90's..and now the west africans..we tend to fear what we dont know..

Excellent comments Shrek. And when it all boils down to it, whether your team mates are black, white or green they are still there enjoying the same recreational pastime as you and are equal in every possible way. The jumper bonds the team, not whats underneath it or the background of the person.

Sorry to hear this sad news Zed...hope there is a silver lining to this.

Never good when a club looses a young player in tragic circumstances.

Condolences Zed and Kenilworth FC.

But at the same time, kudos to your footy club for being so community minded.

The Gepps Cross Football Club passes on our condolences to all involved.
Muticulturalism is a way of life in Australia and we all should embrace it instead of mocking those who do, well done Kenilworth on your contribution towards that.

thanks all for the kind words..we are only doing what a community club should be involved in..our thanks goes to these lads who have helped us field full strength teams as well

my lad just wouldnt stop asking questions about it once he found out..i guess its a rude awakening..to have a fellow team mate stabbed and another killed at 3.30pm in the middle of the city is just so foreign for us

I feel much better being an Aussie after reading this rather than the racist rants of others in the general discussion thread. Well done to the Kenilworth FC for embracing the Sudanese community and good luck with the difficult task of passing the sad news onto his fellow teammates. RIP.

The young boy was also a gun soccer player for us at Plympton, good allround kid. It amazing that these things occur, you see it on tv and soemtimes don't realise that it is actually real life on the box, not some movie. The thoughts of everyone at Plympton, comittee, players, members and supporters of all sports are with the family and friends of the young man.

It is unfortunate that events such as this are the ones that galvanise the community, and bring everyone together.

RIP little buddy.

Kilburn had a fair few out in the juniors in 06 did'nt they Shrek?
We had a couple come out in the 14's last year from the Chicks but a lack of backup from parents/caretakers meant that they found it hard to get to training & away games. Did'nt front this year.
