ANZAC DAY Footy 2009

Always a good topic of conversation is how ANZAC day should be respected in regards to local footy programming. I for one love the idea of playing on ANZAC day even though i am yet to experience it. With rostering and scheduleling for the season presumably ( ) underway at SAAFL house, what are other thoughts on how it should pan out this year?

My understanding that in years gone by the round closest to anzac day was programmed as normal and any club wishing to move the date of their game for an ANZAC clash organised it with each other and the league.

What day does it fall on this year??? A saturday??? If so then everyone gets the oppurtunity to play on special occasion.

If it falls midweek i would love to see the SAAFL exclusivley program Modbury v TTG. Would a blockbluster of epic proportions and a game most others would be interested in

i think the best way to do it would make it so the 2 teams coming up get to play on the day, or any side that has a real rivalry, using my club as an example, portland v smosh this season or portland v north haven the season before!
I also think that each div should only have 1 game on the day! this is refering to it if its a weekday game!

I know Modbury have asked for an ANZAC day game.

We didnt request a team to play but TTG or SHOC would be best. Modbury and SHOC have built a bit of rivarly against eachother playing in 2 GF's in the last 5 years and plenty of tight games

It's on the Saturday, meaning scheduling as per normal. Also means we don't get a public holiday :(

I believe you can request a match and perhaps organise it with a rival club if you would be willing to undergo the necessary formalities on the day.

ANZAC day is a Saturday this year with no public holiday on the Monday. It will be business as usual for all clubs I'd assume although I daresay a few will try to promote it as an ANZAC day blockbuster. With that many games on bugle players should be in demand!

There's an opening for the great man; TBS can blow the sh^t out of a trumpet at Kilburn in front of the KDF. What a way to spend Anzac Day

I used to play the sax. Don't know whether the last post would work on that.

When does the program come out by the way. Seems like most other leagues have their's out already.

Can't have any triple-headers on ANZAC Day though, no footy is allowed to start until midday.

Not sure that there is actually a law passed by parliament on that one - if the AFL are now playing on Good Friday - I am sure the SAAFL would let a triple header go ahead on Anzac Day and let you start before midday

I could think of nothing better (upart from a GF) then playing footy on Anzac day, especially if it is made compulsory for teams to line up and have a minute silence before the game. Even better with the last post included. I think having it on Saturday this year will take the buzz out of it a little as it will feel like just a normal game. Would still love the amatuer league to inforce a minute of silence though before the game.

In the next few years it would be good to see two teams from each division play an Anzac day game, and I like the idea of a rivalry game. TTG V Modbury would be a cracker, GG V Greenacres would be another good one.
