SAAFL 2010

The Advertiser wrote today that the league is looking at changes next year, they want to change the comp into zones. div one and two will stay the same but the lower grades will play teams in their areas, the grades will double in size and there will only be a central and a Northern division. but this could make some terribly lopsided matches.
it could be Para Hills Playing Paralowie

I hear this was brought up at an SAAFL meeting with all of the club reps present and my feeling was that the clubs basically said they didnt want it but at every chance the SAAFL keep trying to ram it down the clubs throats.
I guess time will tell weather the league listens to the member clubs or if they just make the decision off their own backs.

So the SAAFL are considering this why? Is it because Edwardstown left? If so, that's a knee jerk reaction that will only divide the comp further IMO.
No doubt the clubs will be against it, I mean, what's the detriment in having to travel every couple of weeks. It's not like playing in the country for heaven's sake where you have to drive 2-300km round trips.

It'd be interesting to see how North Pines and Central United go if this was to happen?

A lot of water to go under the bridge before this comes to fruition. In the embryo stage only and that's probably where it will remain.

Get off your high horse, he wasn't saying that Para Hills are beneath playing Paralowie but's lets face it- Para Hills would thump Paralowie.
Wouldn't be completely lop sided.
You keep div 1
then there's the equivalent of a div 2/3 comp a 4/5 and a 6/7

And the difference between top in Div 2 and bottom in Div 3 is? Completely lopsided!

Yes, there will be even more lopsided results than there are now, Callington-like. What sort of image will that set for the league, especially when those struggling clubs start to fold, one by one...

furthest trip in div 6 for heccies is to trinity. only 50min drive and thats a one off.
the only thing i can see zoning working for is in C grade and nothing more!

spot on
whats a 45min drive every few weeks or twice a season???
would ruin the comp if it was to happen!!
If it did happen which I doubt, do you think there would a chance of some sort of rebel comp trying to form to keep the same sort of set up around???
this is just a thought!!

terrible idea i dont mind travelling long distance once or twice a year.. it would be completely useless and you would see teams losing players.. imagine the likes of Cent United having to play Eastern Park or a Para Hills it would be 50 plus goal loss.. i hope it dosent go ahead its good to play different faces and different teams each year, you get an idea how other clubs go about things

Will not get off the ground if my understanding of the club delegates vibes are correct.

Was this the same as what was printed in the footy budget? After speaking with a few blokes i work with that are in other grades. They said that this has been brought up every year for a while but the first its been advertised to a degree. I for one would not like to see this happen. My idea of the league is the set up that is currently in place caters for all clubs and divs. With out repeating everything that has already been said. For clubs that are only able to play in certain divs wether it be for financial, skill or other reasons. Playing against clubs from other divs and areas would definately destroy what has been I would say a succesful partnership between the league and clubs at present. Some might say that the league only cares for itself but surely it has and is working.
I do remember that there was a different set up to in the budget to what the tiser said. Didnt the budget (please correct me if i'm wrong) that there would be central nourth and central south aswell as the traditional north south comps.
I Marbles am not trying to get a guernsey in the budget with my fake words of wisdom but surely this can not go ahead.

Bad idea. The relegation/promotion system works well in my opinion and helps keep the grades as even as possible which is the best scenario for the well being of all clubs. If a club got flogged week in week out for a couple of years, it would be hard to see that club surviving.

It has been taken back to clubs for discussion and is on the agenda for the July meeting. I doubt that clubs will be receptive given what I've heard from a few delegates.
