Beers after the game

Postby Flipper » Tue Jun 23, 2009 3:06 pm

When reading couple of Jars with Jimmy one of the blokes he interviewed said they would always have a few beers with the opposition.

Do teams still do this? It was always a must back in the day. I hardly hear of CBC going back for a few beers after games. Should the captain for the home team make sure he says something to the away captain?

Smosh have started doing it this year. done it for all away games except St peters who dont have a bar and old iggies who we played at thebby. but agree its good to have a beer at each club. shows a bit of respect.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

I believe portland try and hang round for a beer after the game
like schimma said though
having them at iggies and st peters could be hard since they dont have club rooms!

think the beer tickets that para hills give is a great way to get the oposition side in for a beer!!
good work by them again!!

Also shows that what happens on the park stays on the park.... in most cases... From what I have seen, despite what happens during a game, home supporters/players pretty much always show respect to players from the opposition who stay for a brew... And quite often end up having a chat too... And that can't be a bad thing...

I always think its good to stick around for a beer after the game if you can. Is hard though when some places dont have the bar facilities.
I know that we are always happy to see the opposition stay around for a beer.

I think there should be more of it. Mayb the drink driving laws have tighted over the years and its turned a few people away.

If CBC where to invite clubs to stay after for a beer just outside the changerooms would people be interested in hanging around?

I try to stay for a beer most times and it is the one thing I dislike about playing at CBC..........oh and the fact I have played there over 10 times and probably only won once or twice.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

We'd love to have clubs come back for a beer.... and hopefully soon we can do that... We are in the same boat as CBC and can't offer it at the moment which sucks the fat one ...

I only dream of one day having club rooms. I dont think some people realise what a luxury it is. At other clubs ive played at before CBC i never took the time to appreciate it and take in all the old photos, flags and trophies. Plus when you buy a beer or 15 the money going straight back to your club.

I think its a great idea and even putting on a few jugs and the captain inviting the other team in after the game.... its simple and shows that your club appreciates the effort of the opposition on the day. Going up to div 1 ive found a few clubs that invite the committee members/volunteers of the opposite team into the club rooms at half time for some finger food and refreshments.

More positive than negatives IMO....

I definately think if your clubs were to have an esky with a few cartons on ice and told the oposition that there were beers for us to have after the game, most teams would stay around for one or two
I would feel oblidged to have a beer, feel it was going to waste!!

Div 3 has been really good for this this year. Para Hills, Portland, Mitcham and SMOSH have all come back in for a beer when they've played at our ground, some Old Iggies boys too. It's good to see.

Our blokes said that they just went the knuckle on the weekend? i know the scoreboard wasn't good for them but heard that they totally lost the plot and forgot the footy. And we have some blokes in the team that can call a spade a shovel and they even said it was bad. Not having a go just stirring but apparently they werent a good representation for your club.

I hadn't actually heard anything from their game mate, I'll ask around tonight.

Yeah i have played a few games against Salisbury and never had a problem U/17 up but sounds like the C6 team let the club down on the w/e

Im not saying we are angels either ;)

A beer after the game might have been an awkward thing ;)

its a must, one of the best parts of the game. allows you to be life long friendships. I played SAFA and it was great that you played against the same teams every year and gave you a chance to have a beer and enjoy a chat and a bit of banter. Townies and Plympton were always accomodating.

I've seen it time & time again at Seaton F/C after a game & Gaza would be one of the worst for not coming back in especially since Jarman moved on.
PHOS were given free beer tickets this year & they were found scattered on the floor in the changerooms.
Disrespectfull pr!cks.
