Wise words from the SAAFL

This quote is from today's SAAFL newsletter

"Player payment of club fees

In any sport, the participants pay to play. Budgets are worked out on this basis. Clubs that are
having trouble making payments to the League need to review the collection rate of fees. Should
your club be in a position where the players are not paying their subscriptions, then there is a full
proof method of retrieving them. Let the players know that all teams will forfeit the weekend’s
matches unless fees are paid or only those players that pay can play. The secret to the success of this
strategy is to be true to your word. Forfeit the matches and in future years, the collection rate will
improve dramatically. Although the League discourages matches being forfeited, if it the difference
between club future sustainability and a forfeit, then club sustainability is the preference. Non
payment of fees by players puts undue additional stress on volunteers that are already
overcommitted. It is time to call those players to account in fairness to the dedicated volunteers and
those players that do pay their fees."

I can't understand why clubs wouldn't already enforce such rules.

It's pretty clear at HDFC that until you pay your subs you won't be playing. Round 1 we took only 19 players into the B Grade, about ten missed out - the week after they all paid up.

WHat about the irony of it though. Forfeight a game but we'll still fine you $200 for doing so.

Rocket science down there at league h.q. What club would be playing unfinancial players at the moment?

Now that's on the cards too! More fines is what we want.

You only get charged for a forfeit after 9am on the Friday preceding the match as per the the SAAFL 2009 Handbook under fine section

Yeah at Modbury we have a cut off round for paying them in full and some players in the lower grades have the option of paying per game they play and they pay the team manager on the day of the game.

Exactly... if we took this approach, we'd be not playing for the remainder of the season and not getting any home game revenue.
What BS.

$150 and you get a training guernsey. Half paid by R1, the other half paid by R10.

BL is $150 with $50 before round 1, $50 before round 5 and $50 before round 10

When you look at the value of the $150 its quite good with the cost that goes into strapping and trainers to keep guys going even before the season starts.

Yes Edward, the cost of running football teams is astronomical, most people just take it for granted that the tape just "appears" and the SAAFL charge a few bucks and umpires do it for the love. For A's & B's in div. 5, it generally equates to the $40-$50K mark.

Portland is I think $130 or $150
with discount if ya pay before a certain round

also if you are a uni student at school or under 21 I believe it is only $60

I think thats pretty reasonable!
