A group of interested people are looking to recruit anyone wishing to become a "SOFTY"

Year
Many of this forum's readers would be aware that the Ovingham Football Club, who has been in existence for 100+ years faces extinction effective almost immediately. This has been brought about by some poor management which in turn has seen them unable to pay the costs necessary to remain within the SAAFL.
A group of people, both present & past players are trying to stop this from happening.
We are currently trying to ascertain the extent of the debt to enable us to plan how to overcome the immediate issue to enable the lads to continue to play out this season. We believe it is in the vicinity of $4800.00, this is to be confirmed.
The longer term goal is to make sure suitable people get involved to run the club professionally in 2010 and beyond.
How can you become a "SOFTY"?
We are seeking people who may wish to donate money towards the paying off of the immediate debt, it can be any amount, we will be happy to accept any donation whatsoever. This money may be pledged via pm to me or direct debited to a Commonwealth Bank account which will be opened today at the Port Adelaide branch. I will post the account details as soon as I receive them.
All donations will be acknowledge with a personal letter and posted on this site, if you do not wish to be named, please advise at the time of your donation. A couple of corporate people have offered us some support already, should we receive more than the required amount, that will be left in the account for next season.
Any Club wishing to assist us in any way would be also greatly appreciated
We will be seeking some media exposure to this cause on the 5aa sports show and the 5RPH SAAFL in the next few days.
I personally guarantee the validity of this cause, we need your help.
I will start the proceedings with a pledge of $100.00.
If you have any further queries, please feel free to pm me with a contact number, I will be happy to answer them.
If you know of any Life Members or past players, please let them know what's going on, they may wish to become involved too.
WE CANNOT ALLOW ANY FOOTBALL CLUBS TO DISINTEGRATE, YOUR HELP TO SAVE 'OVIES' IS NEEDED NOW!

not financially as yet. we are seeking a reduction in the admin fines ($2000) so here's to hoping.
the SAAFL are there to help though right?!?!?

We will be meeting with them on Thursday, they're being kept "in the loop".
The 'fines' component is only part of the problem, ongoing measures must be put in place to avoid any repetition that leads to the same problems down the track.
If it sounds like a nightmare, it probably is!

This money may be direct debited to a Commonwealth Bank account which will be opened today at the Port Adelaide branch. I will post the account details as soon as I receive them.
There needs to be a change of plan with the above hilighted course of action.
As I am not a current member and cannot produce any of their most recent minutes from any club meetings, this account cannot be opened by the bank.
I will contact the SAAFL and see if they will accept the donations and put them straight into a fund to reduce the club debt, I still would like anyone who wishes to either pledge or donate to advise me also.
Thanking you in anticipation of your support.

This cause is receiving great support from the editor and his people at the Amateur Footy Budget.
They have devoted a full page feature this week to the plight currently faced by the Ovingham Football Club, outlining the possibilities and the probabilities and how people can help the club to survive in these tough times.
The feature will appear on page 9 between the double page on Gepps Cross Juniors & the Port Districts Heritage Day.
Special thanks to Luke and his team for recognising the importance this crisis brings to Amateur football, and gives everyone the opportunity to help with the survival of one of its oldest member clubs.

I have put $5 on a multi.
Amer Delic H2H (vs Nicolas Mahut) into Collingwood 1-39 into Essendon 1-39 @ $24.30.
If it gets up I will donate the winnings to the cause.

Thanks Q for the offer, best of luck to all of us!
It might have been better value just giving us the $5 in the first place, it's hard enough spearing 1 winner let alone 3 of them

I sent a copy of the initial post to Leith Forrest, the producer of the 5AA Sports Show asking for their support but didn't hear anything on the radio last night. I did receive confirmation they received it though. Hopefully it works.
