Food for thought

Postby aceman » Sat Aug 01, 2009 9:37 pm

Got an interesting piece of information today which may well be a different form of "tanking"
A certain person whose son plays Under 18's at a club on North East Rd was heard declaring last Sunday that their team would be forfeiting this Sunday, Aug 2 because they are due to play the equal top team and are possibly looking at a big loss, so to not give the opposition the chance to greatly improve their percentage, they will forfeit the game.
What do you reckon has happened, yep, they've lodged a forfeit for tomorrow. Well done !

Might be time for the SAAFL to look at what is happening, don't you think?

Well at the end of the day we have to rely on the goodwill of respectable clubs not to do pitiful sh%t like this. Really what could the league do? how could they prove it?

If you were one of the players wouldnt you be unhappy with your coach doing this because it would then mean you dont get to play football!!!!

In the last few years i have been at BL the B grade have probably won a collective total of 5 games before this season with some huge losses but i couldnt imagine the coaches saying over those years that we will simply forfeit the game so the other side doesnt gain percentage.

Do they play a final 4 or 5? (ie) GZ still after Portland's spot in the 5?

What a disgrace! As a junior nothing else in the world mattered except the 2 hours on a Saturday (in this case Sunday!) and training, as a player there would of been a riot if my junior club suggested this!

yeah heard that from a player from a club in question last night. At the end of the day you still have to beat the sides in the finals, all its doing is prolonging the inevitable.

If this is legit and these kids start taking soft options when they are seniors the club should remember where they learnt it. Learn how to win learn how to lose be better for it.

Aceman I know you are only reporting what you were told and I think its fairly easy to figure out who your source was but nothing could be further than the truth.

I am involved in the team in question and can assure you all that at no point did we decide to forfeit because we did not want to play.

The facts are that we have been struggling for numbers all year and have played several games with 16 or 17.
Due to injury (including the Source's son), we finished the game against Gepps with 15 players and lost another player at training during the week leaving us with a squad of 14 for last weeks game. Of those 14 most of them played either B or C grade on Sat so did not miss out on a game.

We would have had to have forfeited regardles of who were scheduled to play and accusations that we were too weak to front up insult the Coach, myself and most importantly the group of lads who have busted a gut for their footy club week in and week out.

Now that the facts are out there anbody want to continue the discussion?

just a quick snippet whilst we are on juniors..seems the seaton u/18s had to forfeit on sunday due to altercations between the team on the saturday night before..only 8-10 turned up to play..they are currently 4th and were playing kenilworth who were 3rd..so it was a vital game to say the least

That being the case its good to hear most of the lads still got a game on the Saturday, you never wanna miss a game but playing 4 or 5 short isnt enjoyable for anyone either. I've played cricket with the bare minimum required before and your better off not playing!!!
