Went to a reunion of the now defunct ANZ Bank Footy Club on the weekend which was the first one I had been to even tho they have one every 5 years or so.
Can anyone recall when this league disbanded.
ANZFC joined the Amateur League (in Div 4 or 5 I believe) as did some of the others. Clubs included Edwardstown, Marion, Brighton, Morphettville Park, Plympton, Blackwood (for awhile).
Anway met a lot of blokes I hadn't seen for 20 odd years and the reunion brought back a host of memories.
Anyone out there got any they care to recall on here

The league changed name in 1983 to the Southern Metro Football League which lasted until 1986.
From memory only 6 teams competed this last season Plympton, Marion, Morphy Parks, Blackwood, Brighton and Camden.

Fairly strong back then with Plympton, Marion and Morphys going to SFL in 87, Plympton won flags in 87,88 and 89. Morphy Parks won the premiership in 90. Marion had to wait until 2000 but had 5 Grand Final appearances in the 90's.
Blackwood went to Hills in 87 with flags in 88 and 91, not sure on division though. And not 100% on this but Camden amalgamated with Greek FC in 87? and won SAAFL div1 in 88,90 and 91 with Brighton going to SAFA in 87.

Greek won the flag in 1985 then merged with Camden for the 87 season as they had lost their ground Weigall Oval

1987 2nd
1988 3rd
1989 2nd
1990 1st undefeated The first team since 1936 to win the A1 flag undefeated
1991 1st
1992 5th Only Final Four
1993 6th Only Final Four

Merger disbanded at the end of the 93 season and then merged with Henley while Camden merged with PHOS as they had lost their ground at the school.

Almost we hadn't lost it at that stage (PHOS) but we could see the writing on the wall and also wanted the better facilities. THe school didn't sell for another 2 years.

yeah forgot about Camden

The ANZ Bank footy club changed from Glenelg South to Amateur League in 1981 I rekn and won a flag in Div 5 straight away so then went up to Div 4

Remember playing against the likes of John Burkett (ex West) from Camden, Lindsay Backman (South) from Edwardstown, Reg Pollard (Glenelg) from Brighton, Scott Salisbury (Glenelg) from Plympton.

Does anyone remember the old Blackwood Oval - sticky mud that stunk to the high heavens
