Step back in time

I took a step back in time today watching the GF between TTG & Paralowie at Thebby.
The playing coach for Paralowie, somewhat getting on in years and with a girth almost twice the amount of his age was standing on the boundary line, dressed in his double blue playing kit directing his charges...............................and smoking like a train.
Whatever happened to the cult figures in footy?
The guys who would do just that, or have a puff at halftime or a pie with sauce just before the game washed down with a luke warm coke. I even know of a couple that shared a drag at 3/4 time too.
I guess we've all moved on some, more's the pity I think sometimes!

I know during the C grade, you will usually see a few blokes come out at half time and have a smoke while the coach works out the side for next quarter and what not!

This guy was "chain smoking' and I thought it was just great to see a bunch of guys who are in their very late 30's and 40's and some built like wheat silos, putting tremendous strain on the stitched seams of their footy jumpers. A lot of them showed some real skills and a lot of them struggled to run but enjoyed every moment of it. Good fun!

I too enjoyed that game as well. At times I thought it was a better spectacle than the div 1 game afterwards. Hope the big ruckman is ok.

The Div 1 game was very disappointing for Gepps supporters which I see from your profile, you are one of them.

mate, I hope he is OK. That was one of the sickest things I have seen on the footy field. Had to look twice as I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw his foot facing the wrong way!
Congrats to the Paralowie side. Proves that the team who wants it more on the day wins the GF. Clearly the better side on Saturday.

Probably all walking like their feet were facing the wrong way later that night.
