U18 Grand Finals

Postby Footy Chick » Sun Sep 13, 2009 7:19 pm

Just got home from Thebby - great day and 3 magnificent games of footy, particulary the TTG v Salisbury North game.

I haven't seen a more entertaining, physical game of footy all year, in fact it's probably the best game of footy I've seen all year.

Congrats to TTG who got over the line by 2 points.

Other winners were Port Districts and Henley.

For anyone who went, any thoughts on todays games?

The highlight for me was the end of the TTG v Salisbury North when the trainer "allegedly" chased the umpire into the umpires room.

I thought the henley v Plympton game was a good game aswell!

With the scene that was caused after the TTg v SN game
what is the rule there???
For anyone who doesnt know, SN were 2 points down, a free kick or mark was given/taken after the siren
the TTg bench all ran onto the oval and then when this was seen the SN players tried to call a count but the umpires refused to do the count
If they did do the count then TTG would have lost!
Were TTG eligable to loose there score??
or because the final siren went it cant happen?

Not sure on the rule, but you'd think that the umps would have a bit of room to move on that one, common sense should provail, and if the players/officials were asked to vacate the ground and didnt then they would have to act.

I think players from both clubs ended up on the field anyway, didn't they?

They don't wipe scores anymore anyway for too many men on field..

the only way the score could've altered is if SN had been given the 25m penalty and the kid who actually had the ball in his hands when the siren went kicked the goal.

Correct me if Im wrong though.

PS: Can we keep this discussion to possible rulings etc as opposed to other things that "allegedly" happened as this IS being investigated... anything that mods see as unfit to discuss will be removed. Cheers.

Don't want to take away a great win from the Gullies either - Yep Bulldogs, the Mann household wouldve been on fire last night!

Henley won by 8 or 9 points - was a great comeback by the Bulldogs though after being a few goals down in the 3rd quarter.

Yes, I said hi to Lisa for you ;)

heard from 2 different people that when the siren sounded there was a free given right on the 50m line, players were running onto the ground they shouted to the umps for a count but the main reason was that the TTG players went flooding down the goal sq to stop the goal being kicked some players ran thru the mark which should have been a 25 m penalty resulting in a closer shot at goal that i was told was why they went mad at the umps

Thta makes sense, from the sideline and not being apart of either clubs was only an outsider looking in!

It was a mark that was payed before the siren and none of the sn players ran on the field..

correct me if im wrong but isnt the game only finished when the umpires blow the whistle and put there hands up and also correct me if im wrong but i dnt believe the umpires actully did that even after the player kicked the goal

It was caught on video anyway and will be interesting to see what happens out of it but personally sn should be awarded the game because ttg had to many players on the field when the kick was taken.

The trainer chasing the umpires into the room was the funniest thing i will ever see in my life hahahahahahahhahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhhhhahaaha

the only person who can ask for a count is the captain... not the runner or coach

How good was the whole under 18R finals series.
1st SEMI: Smithfield def. Golden Grove by 9 points.
2nd SEMI: Salisbury North def. Tea Tree Gully by 10 points.
PRELIMINARY: Tea Tree Gully def. Smithfield by 5 points.
GRAND: Tea Tree Gully def. Salisbury North by 2 points.

I don't think you'd see a more evenly fought finals series.
