How would the bloke that plays 15+ games for the year feel when someone like Bassett comes in & plays just the required amount of games ( four ) & replaces him in the final? p!ssed off.
I know who deserves to play & its not Bassett.

There is one extra on the bench in finals though.

I was told he wasnt picked because he didnt train.
Doesnt matter who misses out, you pick your best side available if everyone meets the club criteria in earning selection, yes he qualified but didnt train.

Thats why he's spat the chewie

He was told - qualify and we'll play you
He trained every night of the 2 weeks before the GF

They didn't pick him - he did spit it on the Friday - I was there

The President was forced to back out of Basset's agreement with the threat of a player revolt if he was selected. In hindsight the move was right as they went on to win the GF that week. But plenty of Supporters had the knives out and sharpening them at 3/4 time of the game 9 points down and lacking momentum over the non selection.

Silvy and the other coaching staff were left with a very tough decision indeed beacuse if he played an we lost due to a split playing group or even lost with out him would have been far more damaging that the choice they went with.

Bassett has now move on to better things so it boils down to the original agreement Nathan went with because he wanted to do other things as well during the season.

The right choice was made. An individual is never bigger than the club.

Wonder if he'll have the same attitude coaching at Norwood? Problem is he has now set the dummy spitting standard, what would happen if a Redleg spat it that way - can see it now - "I'm the coach, you will play it my way....." - will hold his credibility in good stead.

my boss who is involved with that club reckon the Bassets are a pair of knobs, And Scott is the biggest goal hog. Yells at teammates for not passing to him, even when they score themselves!

club was stupid for making that agreement. doesnt matter how good you are for a club to agree on what they did is a disgrace of course it will come down to bite you.

if you had asked any pulteney player in march.."we can get bassett to play with us this year but he can only play 4 games but in doing so will qualify for the finals..do you have any problerm with us doing this?"..the answer would have been 100%...no..

so when the situation changes 5 months later it seems the committee has spoken with a forked tongue..if that was the deal and everyone was aware of it then i think they did the wrong thing by the player but got the chocolates anyway

my mate plays at imbros watched a few matches that standard behaviour in soccer the only thing is scott has ability to take on the players,
Would say it pultney fault if they made agreement, nathan stuck to his end of agreement pultney didnt

I agree Zed, everyone was more than happy for Bassett to play games during the year but when it came evident that they probably wouldnt need him to claim the flag, players suddenly became unhappy with the arrangement. Poor form.
