Just caught the end of a conversation the other night at the club, apparently away strips this year. Is that for all grades and has it been decided for or by the clubs. Thoughts.

Woodville South wore away strips last year in the A'Grade and B'Grade.

i don't understand the necessity for away strips - at amateur level what's the justification beyond colour clashes which has been addressed?

I think you will find that away strips aren't compulsory.
What is compulsory is a clash strip when the League deem that colours are too close.
For the first time in 2009, when playing a team whose colours clash, the away team wore the clash strip, rather than going by the old rule of the team with the newest guernsey always wearing the clash strip. This meant that a whole heap of teams had to go out and order new 'clash strips'.

As for 'Away strips', I know at TTG we decided that for the majority of away games we would wear our 'clash strip', so that we get greater wear out of both sets of guernesys and hopefully get them to last longer. Also, by wearing the 'clash strip' more regularly it meant that when the lads did need to wear the guernsey for a clash, they were used to it and eliminated the threat of them getting confused (we're a simple bunch).

that's why we get each player to buy their own - it then follows them throughout the grades (apart from the a and b grades) - also why the numbers are so large - its our registered number.

The clubs finally succumbed to pressure from the "Head Man in the Bunker" that all clubs wear a clash jumper. No longer does the longest serving club get to wear their traditional jumper they now have to change for clubs that have been in the league for 5 minutes or clubs that sold their soul for all of these fancy AFL designs "YUK"

A very sad day for the long serving and traditional clubs that didn't sell out they have to suffer for those that sought to make a quick buck.

Clubs only have to wear an alternative jumper if the colours are deemed to clash.
Last year we(Gepps Cross) played SHOC in round 2, our jumpers were not classified as "clashing colours" warranting a change, Gino was there for 5 minutes and I asked him for his thoughts. He couldn't believe it either!
The colours certainly clash and I had said it many times before when we were in Div 2 with SHOC, so look out for the new ripper red jumper.

however i remember playing with a guy who sewed his number on inside out and 137 became 731 (in the olden days of 1990)

I tend to agree that the older clubs should be able to wear thier original jumpers, we do not clash with many clubs but as we are younger we have an away strip that we already wear, i guess the good thing about having them is we can wear them if we feel there may be a clash but the book doesnt say so.

Tradition is one thing, but fairness must outweigh that!! For a team who finishes high on the ladder and is forced to wear the clash guernsey is ridiculous....The SAAFL have got this issue correct....away teams and lower ranked sides in finals must wear the clash strip!! We cant all have poor attitudes like Eddie Maguire now can we!!

The Eddie Maguire award in the SAAFL belongs to FE. He's gone from a Red Tulip chocolate to an Allens Steam Roller in a couple of months, poor thing.

Well Clever Dick you must be a SAAFL stooge

You have no idea of how a club runs or about tradition. You must be one of those clubs that sold their soul for a fancy jumper and found out you can't wear it all the time and have lost the rights to your old jumper.

To some members the jumper means a lot to them and is the only jumper they have ever worn.
AUFC have only had 1 jumper design in over 100 years but now have to wear something else now almost at every away game. Our club was dead against the change but have accepted the leagues request and have come up with a clash jumper for season 2010.

What you forget so easily that the cost involved with every club now having to get a clash jumper.

Should make the Clothing Licence people extremely happy.

While we do not like the decision we will abide by it.

WHICH SAAFL CLUB ARE YOU FROM OR SO AFRAID TO SAY OR JUST HIDING BEHIND A NAME

SHOULD BE "NOT SO CLEVER DICK"

Still a Red Tulip Chocolate in Most Delegates Eyes but you probably not.
