This is the biggest story of the year.

The SAAFL really has got out the big stick here. This will put the cat amongst the pigeons. For mine, a bit over the top. Clubs are going theough their toughest times ever.

Maybe it is time for a change of the guard on the Executive. This happens in the same week they come up with a lame brain idea of playing the Div 1 GF on a Sunday. They have forgotten what it is all about. Get your resumes ready boys.

Could be right there Bluerag. Definitly a bold move. Well with that info in mind having a look at a few ladders is interesting. In div 7 Paralowie stay third as Nth Pines got penilised. And Modbury in div 2....whats going on down there boys.

Its not fair on the rest of the comp also. Imagine getting relegated or missing out on the 5 cause the lucky side that made the finals or avoided relegation played the team that didnt pay their call before the call date and thus got the points. Maybe you lose 2 points for the next season could be a better way? I dont know, it just seems unjust on the rest of the comp.

Having more of a think...this is huge. WATCH THIS SPACE. This just goes to show the Executive have lost touch with reality. The consequences of this action are...well...I'm dumbfounded.

all sounds good to me, you can't keep saying you are going to do something if you arent going to go throught with it. Clubs esp, in Div 2 should have no excuse for not being able to make a call.

Before people start crying about how hard it is for clubs, (yes i know how hard it is)

Wounder how many of those clubs who have missed a call, are paying players??

as coach of paralowie yes i'll take the points but only cause i have to from a club point of veiw but let me go on the record as saying i do not agree with it at all if nth pines didnt pay up the game should'nt of gone ahead and that is that what would've happened if there was a report , a really bad injury or an all in fight ( which was close ) very very badly delt with by saafl yes they should've pay'd there money no doubt about that but saafl should've delt with it better aswell .
you've gota keep on keep'n on .........

for a div 2 club missing a call is absurd, if the club if in finacial trouble then the management of the club have a lot to answer for. surely they can raise enough cash to meet their financial obligations.

Know what you are saying heater31 but managing a club is not all that easy. Cashflows rely on home games etc and can be seriously hit if the AFL puts the bloody Crows up against you on a Saturday (as was the case 20th and 27th May). Supporter numbers can be down by around 75%. Financial trouble can come around pretty darn quickly.

That second call to Modbury was probably around $3,500 (and they've paid that in the first call already). The SAAFL has to talk (and yes the Club should be talking too), but to take away a win, if it comes to that, well...I don't know where we stand as clubs. We should all be worried. If none of us pay, who pays the wages of the peple who make this decision.

Maybe a boycott of games by all Clubs might be the go next weekend. Harsh thoughts I know but maybe warranted.

Some very interesting points. I'd be very interested to know if any players from any of the clubs who lost points have not been paid recently due to financial hardships? The League is definitely taking a Big Brother approach this year. Running a club if very difficult as it generally relies on too few to do too much, but, you can make a deal with the devil and sort out alternative arrangements with the League if there's not alot of change in the back pocket. I also understand that the League is driving their 'Code of Conduct' pretty hard. Does anyone know of any clubs that have been stung with a breach of this code?

Get ready for the next lot of fines. I noticed in this weeks newsletter that the league are going to do a check on clubs to ensure all jumpers socks and shorts are the official logo type and purchaesed from the correct suppliers and they ahve threatened hefty fines. I wonder if that will include clubs like uni who from memory wear unbadged plain white shorts. Are they going to check every grade where its sometime hard enough to find players let alone put them in the right socks.

And that would've resulted in you winning by a forfeit anyway - thereby collecting the points.

yeh but the saafl knowing they hadnt payed going into the game carey was saying the game that went ahead was dud from the start and it wasnt about the points it was the injuries that could have occured in a nothing game. A serious injury could have come out of the game when the result didnt matter from the first bounce.

I noticed all grades from the clubs that have been stung have had there games forfeited.

There has to be some sort of back lash on this. To harsh !!!

When did the SAAFL know about this and did they warn the clubs.
It is what it is !!!

Were all grades forfeited for those teams that were 'unfinancial'?

Just found this on a old SAAFL Newsletter

Accounts
Accounts for this month were sent out on the 18 th May and are due to be paid by
the 31 st May 2006. The consequences of nonpayment
by the due date will result
in the following action as stipulated in the newsletter following the first call for
payment of accounts.
1. A winning team of a defaulting club will not gain premiership points.
2. If a team loses, they will lose all their score
3. A 10% finance charge will be added to the unpaid amount.
It is what it is !!!

An alternative and more pallatable way of handling this would be to...

Fine the Club 20% of the call. This is incentive enough to pay it on time.

If the Club is still unfinancial at the time of team nominations for the next year, they aren't allowed to nominate i.e. they must pay to be able to continue participating. This may give them time to raise the funds. The SAAFL is happy becuase effectively they have invested the money at 20% return.
