SAAFL Division 1 GF On a Sunday!

In one word...a joke (Ok, that's 2 words but 'a' is only a small word).

Saturday night of a GF is the single biggest night of a Clubs year. It should not be compromised by SAAFL executive members wishes or SAAFL sponsors wishes. The Clubs are the reason the SAAFL exists and everything should be done to ensure that all GF's are played on a Saturday (afternoon). That is what we are about.

The SAAFL executive concerns (collection of gate takings and presentation of premiership cups at other GF's) can be worked around and I don't think league sponsors give a toss. Also, if other teams in the same club miss their A grade GF, I am sure they don't care because they've missed their games all year anyway (and they're probably celebrating their own success).

As for those people from other clubs that go to the GF of a different club in a D1 GF, the SAAFL is mistaken. This would make up stuff all numbers.

I hope my club is in it one day but I'll be mighty pissed off if it is on a Sunday.

There was nothing better than winning the Div 1 2002 flat on a sunny Sat arvo at the Adelaide Oval and then kicking on back to the club for a night of mayhem, followed by 2 more days of madness!!!!

In 2000 they played the GF on a friday night which caused alot of problems for players by Monday Arvo. It looks like there main reason is they want all the league officials to be able to attend. Why not a Saturday night?

Is this the Sunday as in the day after the A2-A7 GFs, or 8 days after?

can see what the SAAFL are trying to do, they want the other divs to turn up to the final while the interest in footy is still there and with GF celebrations on Saturday night a sunday in the only other possibility. at present i think that very few players from lower divisions turn up 1 week latter. having said that i ve been to only the one A1 Grand Final in 2004 and thought the crowd could have been a bit bigger.
