As most clubs have cricket using their ovals during summer, can we get some suggestions on how to host trials with a hard-wicket pitch.

Cover the pitch for the footy and uncover it again for the cricket. We've had to do this before.

Come on mate, if you had a footy game on a saturday evening and a cricket game the following day, what are some of the methods used to ensure that the pitch and surrounding areas are fit for cricket.

LM

The Lodge lays down the cricket matting and cones off the pitch if the ball goes in there umpire blows the whistle and balls it up to the side

Common sense - all the players know its there

Suprising how little it actually goes through the centre wicket

We don't have Sunday cricket. We have had cricket Saturday and a trial Sunday followed by cricket the next Saturday.

Basically we covered the pitch on the Sunday morning using loam then removed it all Sunday night and Monday morning. You need to use thick rubber is similar over the pitch before you put the loam on so the pitch stays dirt free.

Yeah, I watched one of your trials last season, Joss isn't too keen on that.

We're looking at something similar, we just need to trial it to see how much rooting around it will be. We're fortunate enough to have a footy coach who has cricket knowledge, it's killed us in the past which inturn has killed home trials for footy if cricket is successful.

we played a trial against South Adelaide resies/19 side on a fri night a few years back and both coaching staff stood in the middle and coached from there.

Just common sense with witches hats, if it's explained beforehand it's not a problem.

Plympton has had trials where the pitch has covered with a few layers of carpet, if you ring any carpet place they wil generaly have a few long lengths of stuff ready for the bin, if you layer it and maybe put some foam underneath you can get by, obviously the ump also has to show some good judgement and still move the play away from the pitch if he can, but that would be the quickest and simplest way to do it.

Heccies haven't used their ground at all for trials over the past two yrs and won't be doing it again this yr- all due to cricket. We've played the majority either at other teams ground or up at Greenwith (Golden Grove FC's 2nd oval)

Wouldn't the SANFL grounds be available for trial game especially if you can move your game time to a friday night/saturday night/sunday timeslot.

Happy Valley has a0 ml rubber matting that can be put down and pulled up on Friday Night.

There is a group coming down to McLaren Vale On Thursday who makes the mats plus a rep from ONKA Council. They will be doing a quote

Then it wouldn't be a home trial.
