Hope Valley have U/18's for the 3rd year in a row after not having them for a few years. 4-5 will get a taste of senior footy too by the look of them. I'm not sure if their trial games are already locked in or not. Demon Juke would know more..

Smosh has a squad of 30 training at the moment. solid numbers looking at a good year.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

We put in for an Under 18s side again this year, we do have a fair few under 18s training but I'm unsure if we will have an Under 18s side.

As for the competetion as a whole, form what I've seen the last two years, playing in and watching the under 18s competition, 2009 and 2010 have been an a big mess, the management of the competition should of been better than what it has been.

We made the grand final in 2008 and in that year IMO, the competition was strong, every side had plenty of numbers playing and it was an enjoyable competition to play in and be a part of. I remember in 2007 watching our under 18s playing after us in the 16s and the competition then was very good.

But in the last two seasons, the competition level has dropped and many clubs have lost they're under 18 sides because of a lack of numbers and IMO it seems like less and less time is being put into developing and managing the under 18s competitions.

I hope the SAAFL can look at the Under 18s competition to see how they can improve it and manage it better so players moving from junior footy to senior footy can have a smooth transition so they won't be caught in between, which has happened to alot of younger players of the last couple of years and so the competition stays strong and doesn't fall to bits.

Salisbury will have Under 18s after not having enough numbers last year. Most of the boys will be genuine Under 17s but they should be competitive.

Modbury have had about 10-20 under 18's attend 80% of our preseason training. Extremely pleasing to see, few of them will certainly get games in our Div 7 & 7R sides this year. Even a couple that could slot nicely into the Div 2R side.

Think our 18's will be a stronger outfit than last year as a majority are now playing there second year in there and a large number have senior games experience.

Interesting to read the part i have highlighted in bold. at Our club we have a rule in place that no U/18 is to be selcted in the C grade.
if they are good enough to be picked in the As or Bs they will be, but it is our feeling that The kids will not learn good habbits playing at this levell and may hinder there development being constantly bashed around by fully grown men. not saying either club is right or wrong with what there doing and people please dont take this as me haveing a crack at the C grade im just curious to see if any other clubs feel the same way

Yeah its a theory that has pros and cons IMO. Running 4 senior sides it can also mean a matter of numbers, however with our C grade being in Div 7 they are still playing a reasonable level. If we were in C3 and C6 i would also suggest they dont play that grade over 18s. They can also get 'bashed around by fully grown men' but our lads can handle it and they wont be asked to play if they arent up to it. Must choose the right 18s to play against the men.

At MFC this year will have a strong focus on our junior developement through the Ressies hopefully find a few that are capable of playing A grade this year or next. A few have improved greatly over the pre season already which is a great sign.
