fellow poster's,

it is with great sadness that i confirm that the paralowie sports and social club will be no longer as of the close of bussiness on sunday the 27th of march. this is the results of many on-going issues that can not be fix. it is my belief that the council were going to close the doors and take back ownership of the building during the week ending 26/02/2011 but thanks to peter clarkson going to the council explaining we have 2 sides in cricket finals they extending it till the 27/03/2011. it was only about 3 or 4 years again the council wanted to build units there i guess that time has come.....

after seeing all the emotion that L/M has just gone through with smithfield it really is a sad day in my opinion that clubs like your smithfield's and paralowie's are closing the doors. to be honest it has'nt really sunk in yet dont think it really will till the 27th rolls around.
to add to late what happens now with a side pulling out of div5 and now div6???

i personally have been involved in paralowie for over 26 years played 199 games of footy there and who knows how many games of cricket as paralowie have never kept games played of cricket! but i've never played cricket for anyone else and have played every year at paralowie since the age of 6 or 7 with adam barnes.

along the way i've made life long friends, been through births, deaths, marriages and plenty more moments i'll never forget like i said it just has'nt sunk in yet that paralowie wont be there any longer. i just cant believe it right now i'm lost for words...........

Sorry to read this Carey. It is so hard to take when you've obviously given your sporting life to the one club.

Footy / Cricket clubs are so important to us these days.
No matter what happens during the week, we know we can go to the club and catch up with mates and have a few beers and a yarn to forget the rest of the crap happening in the world.

Flagstaff was in a similar situation back in 90's but somehow we managed to claw our way out of it (Thank Goodness).

I hope you and your teammates can find a "local" to head off to. It won't feel the same. But you guys have to find a way of keeping in touch and remembering the club

Thinking aloud here mate, but...

What chance of a merger with Smithfield? Obviously Paralowie are without a ground now, but still have a decent player base. A merger could ensure that the histories of both clubs are 'retained'.

Sad day for Paralowie FC and a sad week for amateur footy. No one in the football community likes to see a club go under.

Chin up mate. Catch up with you soon for a beer

Not a bad idea. Smithfield would also inherit Paralowie's financial woes though...

But would they? If it is re-branded as a new club, maybe not??? Any legal eagles out there, where's the Shrek when you need him?!

Too far away from each other, would be like Pt Districts merging with Ovingham

I was only writing the other day about feeling nostalgic when thinking of the days we used to play Wingfield. It's a sad day to know that a respected rivalry you share with another club has no chance of gracing the field again.

When I heard this rumour a couple days ago I sensed that it might be a bit more serious than in had been in other years. I've never been involved in a club for anywhere near 26years like Carey but can only imagine it would be like losing your club. Outside your own home it was probably the place you have spent more time at than anywhere else. Hard to find the silver lining on this cloud.

On another note, with the loss of Smithfield and Paralowie, which neighbouring clubs will benefit with an influx of players looking for new homes. It's not like a large percentage of the playing group can all go to one club with the player points system now in place.

Im of the same opinion here. I guess it would be like loosing your home or car whatever. Just thinking about not having our club around is making me fell sick. I can still remember when i heard that Rosewater were going to merge with Wingfield or shut shop. I started my foooty at Rosie's and even that made me feel abit sh!thouse. Obviously the rumours werent true and the club is getting new facilities (when the council get around to it I spose). Should the league make exceptions to the rule to clubs that get an influx of players form these fallen sides? How that would be policed i dont know but the players will make their own mind up where they will go. Mawson lakes and the like would be the benefactors initialy but they have been in the same boat havent they? With the suggested closure then merger (apoloigies if i have the wrong club). Doesnt matter who you play for or have any bad waters with any other side. To have a local sporting club shut shop is not good for any one especially the young lads that need the game not too mention the relationships that have been built. Chin up Carey mate something good comes from everythinig, even if it is a shit day.

The league will have to make some exceptions surely.
The whole A grade from last year will be worth 2-3 (?) points. These blokes could be turned away from clubs due to the points they carry. You dont want guys not playing footy anymore because of something like this.

Hadn't Paralowie recruited well (greenacres?) and a new coach?? These guys will need to play somewhere!

Because Brisbane and Fitzroy are next door neighbours....

And on a more local note Sturt and North Adelaide were a vote away from merging in the early 90's...

Its not about how close you are, its about keeping history alive!

Thats a pretty good idea actually the boys in districts A Grade would be getting bored of looking down on and ignoring the same old guys in the B's and C's it would really freshen the place up to have some new guys to look down on :)

Very sad news indeed. Had some good (and not so good) hit outs with the Roos.

If the SAAFL doesn't pull its finger out, more clubs will die.

I feel most sorry for the people who have done the hard work keeping the place going that are not necessarily the ones that have run up the debt. I also feel for the people that have put up their hands for committee most recently as they are now liable for the debt.
